Tom Allen has said it at every stop of his coaching career, “if you want to have a great defense, you better have great linebackers.” The good news for the Hoosiers is that they have the best depth at that position since Allen joined the IU football program in 2016.

As the decade closes out and we ring in a new year in just a few hours, I have put together my All-Decade team for the Indiana Hoosiers. This is just my opinion and I encourage discussion. The 2010’s were an up and down time for the Hoosiers as three head coaches spent time leading IUFB. The Hoosiers have had success though and some may call it the most successful decade since the 1980’s or 1990’s for the Hoosier football program. Indiana’s team won 49 games over the ten years, including six wins against Purdue (the first winning decade against the Boilermakers since the 1940’s) and qualified for three bowl games.

It was an eventful weekend for former Hoosiers in the NFL. Eight IU players were active this week and two Hoosier running backs, Tevin Coleman and Jordan Howard, have emerged as the primary rushers for San Francisco and Philadelphia respectively. There are no Indiana alums active on Monday Night Football; here is your NFL Week 6 recap.

The summer calendar is closing in on August and that means the NFL is also just around the corner. As teams report for training camp, now is a perfect time for Hoosier fans to catch up with the former IU football players that will be looking to take their football dreams to the next level.

Chris Covington was an unheralded two-star recruit from Raby High School in Chicago, just two and a half miles west of the United Center. Covington played defensive back and quarterback in high school. He earned all-city and all-conference selections after throwing for 1,993 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior. Covington added 657 rushing yards and 13 more touchdowns on the ground. The dynamic athlete also recorded three interceptions and a forced fumble. He became the first athlete from Raby High School to receive a Division I scholarship. Covington joined Indiana football as a member of the 2014 recruiting class.

Five former Indiana football stars were invited to participate in the 2018 NFL Combine in Indianapolis, which began last week and concluded on Monday.
Wide receiver Simmie Cobbs Jr. was the only Hoosier to participate in all seven drills, while Ian Thomas was involved in five. Linebackers Tegray Scales and Chris Covington took part in only the bench press and 40-yard dash. Cornerback Rashard Fant was unable to participate due to a torn pectoral muscle.
Here are the results from Indianapolis, along with a brief scouting report on each player from the past week. Indiana will also have its pro day on April 3.

Richard Lagow and Tony Fields will be playing in the Tropical Bowl. Tegray Scales earned a spot in the East-West Shrine Game, and Chris Covington was invited to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Former Indiana linebacker Chris Covington wrapped up his time in Bloomington in November, but his dreams of playing at the next level just received a shot in the arm as he has accepted to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Pasadena, CA on January 20th. Postseason all-star games are a great way to impress NFL scouts.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana senior linebacker Tegray Scales and fifth-year senior kicker Griffin Oakes earned first team All-Big Ten honors, the conference announced today. Fifth-year senior cornerback Rashard Fant collected second team accolades.
