An enthusiastic crowd at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington welcomed in the unofficial beginning of the Curt Cignetti era for the Indiana Hoosiers. Indiana’s 2024 Spring Game consisted of a pair of 15-minute quarters as the offense (wearing Crimson) squared off against the defense (wearing Cream). Curt Cignetti called it a “glorified practice” but the product on the field was spirited and both sides clearly wanted the victory.

Both Indiana and Michigan State entered Saturday’s game knowing they would not be going bowling after the regular season ended. The Hoosiers and Spartans were both 3-7 but both teams battled for a second Big Ten win and a chance to take the Old Brass Spittoon. A late touchdown from Michigan State (4-7) and a bizarre intentional grounding doomed Indiana (3-8) to another frustrating late game loss.

Wisconsin entered today’s game tied for first in the Big Ten West and fresh off of a tightly-contested game against the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Badgers were heavily favored over an IU team that was 0-5 in Big Ten play and limping towards the end of the campaign. Despite every sign pointing another Big Ten loss for the home team, the Hoosiers played their best game of the season and knocked off the Wisconsin Badgers 20-14 behind a stellar performance from the IU defense and a strong first half from the offense.

The Indiana Hoosiers and Maryland Terrapins have played very entertaining games for the majority of the time they have clashed in the Big Ten. That was decidedly not the case on Saturday in College Park as Maryland had its way with the Indiana Hoosiers and pulled away for a 44-17 victory to drop IU to 2-3 on the season. IU entered the game needing a positive response after a concerning performance against Akron but Maryland jumped all over the Hoosiers and cruised to a dominant victory.

Hoosiers Hot Start Cooled Off in 24-17 Loss at Rutgers

The Indiana Hoosiers entered Saturday’s contest as losers of four straight games. Rutgers entered the contest with 21 straight conference home losses and losers of three straight. One streak needed to end and despite a strong start from the Hoosiers, the IU offense made sure the Rutgers fans finally went home happy. After the first quarter, the Hoosiers were outplayed in every phase of the game and fell to 3-5 on the season with a 24-17 defeat. Rutgers out-gained Indiana 305-272 and scored 24 unanswered points to come from behind and pull away for the win. This game continued IU’s recent fourth quarter struggles and extended them to the entirety of the second half.

The Indiana Hoosiers (2-6) and Maryland Terrapins (5-3) both entered Saturday’s contest in desperate need of a win. Despite a mostly good display from the offense, IU was not able to breakthrough for their first Big Ten victory, falling in College Park 38-35 thanks to a strong showing from Taulia Tagovailoa and the Maryland passing game. A poor start and a late comeback that came up short doomed the Hoosiers to another loss and has them on the precipice of a losing season.

The Indiana Hoosiers entered Saturday’s game against #10 Michigan State (7-0) coming off a bye week and desperate for a victory. The game was the 108th Homecoming football game at Indiana University and the two sides battled for the Old Brass Spittoon. Without Tiawan Mullen in the defensive backfield and absent Michael Penix at quarterback, it was a tall task against another top ten opponent. Indiana’s defense did everything they could and contained Michigan State’s offense but another comatose offensive performance resulted in another loss for the Hoosiers.

Indiana Hoosiers Cruise Past Idaho in Home Opener

After a disappointing season opener in Iowa City, the Indiana Hoosiers (1-1) returned home needing a strong performance in week number two. In front of a nearly full Memorial Stadium crowd, the Hoosiers got exactly what they needed. Indiana roared out to a 21-0 lead and comfortably defeated the Idaho Vandals by a score of 56-14. Indiana was led by Stephen Carr’s 118 rushing yards and a pair of special teams touchdowns plus a dominant first half defensive performance. The Hoosiers ultimately outgained Idaho 338-261 and the performance should build confidence heading into a titanic matchup against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
