The Indiana Hoosiers will have to replace the heart and soul of their linebacker room and defense as Micah McFadden is off to chase his NFL dreams. The Hoosiers will also be under the new direction of defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Chad Wilt. While Wilt has not exclusively coached linebackers, he has been a coach for over 20 years and will have Tom Allen calling the plays on defense.

There’s been some turnover and inconsistency from the linebacker position for Indiana the past couple years. Players like Cam Jones, James Miller, and Aaron Casey were new to full-time linebacking responsibilities in 2019 after serving in mostly backup roles prior, and at times it showed. But with a strong core of experienced players returning in 2020, Tom Allen and defensive coordinator Kane Wommack have challenged the linebackers to take the next step. This year, they feel they have a group full of impact players.

Hoosiers Land First Commitment of the 2020 Class in Carmel LB Ty Wise

The Hoosiers have landed their first commitment of the 2020 recruiting cycle on Thursday when they landed Carmel H.S. (Ind.) linebacker Ty Wise. Wise is a three-star prospect and ranked as the eighth best player in Indiana according to 247 Sports. Wise holds 10 offer, mostly out of the Group of Five, and Indiana was his only Power Five offer thus far. Iowa and Purdue have been interested but had not formally offered Wise. Wise’s primary recruiter to IU was defensive coordinator Kane Wommack while defensive line coach Mark Hagen is listed as the secondary.
