The XFL kicked off on Saturday, February 8th, renewing an old idea with a modern twist. Eight professional teams were assembled to play a 10-week regular season. The final four teams play face off in a semifinal, followed by the championship game. The league is divided into two divisions with the Seattle Dragons, LA Wildcats, Dallas Renegades, and Houston Roughnecks making up the West. The New York Guardians, St. Louis Battlehawks, DC Defenders, and Tampa Bay Vipers round out the East. The Indiana Hoosiers have three former football players participating in the XFL. Former star wide receiver Simmie Cobbs plays for the DC Defenders. Cobbs recorded one catch for 14 yards as the Defenders defeated Seattle 31-19.

The summer calendar is closing in on August and that means the NFL is also just around the corner. As teams report for training camp, now is a perfect time for Hoosier fans to catch up with the former IU football players that will be looking to take their football dreams to the next level.

Washington got one helluva deal when they signed wide receiver Simmie Cobbs to an undrafted free agent deal. Cobbs will have to prove the people who passed on him in the 2018 NFL draft wrong. The legendary Indiana wide receiver will provide Alex Smith with a big bodied, physical target in the passing game. If not for Indiana University, today might not have been possible for Simmie Cobbs. Obviously, Cobbs’ prolific career on the field will be remembered as he posted remarkable numbers throughout his tenure in Bloomington, and at times, he was simply unbeatable. However, some Hoosier fans might forget Simmie Cobbs was set to be a Boilermaker.

Simmie Cobbs will have a place in Indiana football history for several reasons. Obviously, Cobbs’ prolific career on the field has earned him some serious hype as an NFL prospect. He is being talked about among NFL scouts as one of the more impressive, big-bodied wide receivers in his class. Cobbs posted remarkable numbers throughout his tenure in Bloomington, and at times, he was simply unbeatable. Some Hoosier fans might forget Simmie Cobbs was set to be a Boilermaker.

Five former Indiana football stars were invited to participate in the 2018 NFL Combine in Indianapolis, which began last week and concluded on Monday.
Wide receiver Simmie Cobbs Jr. was the only Hoosier to participate in all seven drills, while Ian Thomas was involved in five. Linebackers Tegray Scales and Chris Covington took part in only the bench press and 40-yard dash. Cornerback Rashard Fant was unable to participate due to a torn pectoral muscle.
Here are the results from Indianapolis, along with a brief scouting report on each player from the past week. Indiana will also have its pro day on April 3.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana redshirt junior wide receiver Simmie Cobbs Jr. collected first team All-Big Ten accolades from the conference's coaches and media, it was announced today. Cobbs is the first IU wideout named to the first team since Tandon Doss (2009-10) and joins senior linebacker Tegray Scales and fifth-year senior kicker Griffin Oakes as 2017 first team honorees.
