David Ellis: Dynamic Weapon Ready to be Deployed in 2020

David Ellis: Dynamic Weapon Ready to be Deployed in 2020

Heading into the 2019 season, the Indiana Hoosiers had a running back room filled with talent, potential and depth. Ivory Winters left before his freshman season began, Cole Gest exited stage left and then after the season, Ronnie Walker transferred out. The attrition left IU with only two scholarship running backs with any type of experience and one scholarship true freshman. Stevie Scott and Sampson James are a formidable one-two punch and newcomer Tim Baldwin Jr. should be a nice addition but having only three scholarship running backs is a scary situation for an offense that wants to emphasize running the ball. Indiana’s coaches scoured the graduate transfer market and even looked at adding another running back to the freshman recruiting class. Ultimately though, they feel the best answer was already on campus. The decision was made to switch sophomore wide receiver and all-purpose athlete David Ellis to running back.

2019 Indiana Football Positional Preview: Specialists

The 2018 Indiana Hoosiers special teams unit had its highs (J-Shun Harris and Logan Justus) and lows (kickoff coverage and kick return). Spring Preview –Running Backs Provides IU with Depth and Talent

The Cream and Crimson game is less than two months away! That means it is time for Hoosier Huddle’s spring preview coverage to ramp up. The first article in our preview series is on one of the deepest and most talented position groups on the Indiana roster: running back. A stellar sophomore returns after a terrific debut season, a fellow sophomore is back after showing flashes in his freshman season and a pair of highly-anticipated freshmen are joining the backfield. This cadre of backs gives new offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer a whole lot to work with. I’ll begin by giving a brief breakdown of each player in the running back room, provide a few things to look from the backs during spring practice and then finish with a projected depth chart.

Morgan Ellison's Suspension is an Opportunity for Others to Step Up

Written by: TJ Inman (@TJHoosierHuddle)

Indiana University announced the indefinite suspension of sophomore running back Morgan Ellison. The details surrounding the suspension have not become public but indefinite suspensions typically are not short-term and it is reasonable to think IU will be without their expected starter at running back for the entirety of the season.
