The NFL Draft is coming up on Thursday in Kansas City and there are a few Hoosiers with hopes of hearing their name called over the weekend. The Hoosiers have a streak of nine consecutive years with an NFL draft pick, continued last season when Micah McFadden was drafted by the New York Giants in the fifth round. While they have not had a first-round pick in 29 years (second-longest streak in Power Five), it is important for Indiana to continue to stack years in which players are selected in the draft.

Former Hoosier linebacker Cam Jones was the first Hoosier since Dan Godsil in 2019 to be selected to the Senior Bowl. The Senior Bowl is the premiere college football all-star game where players get a chance to practice and play in front of NFL coaches and scouts down in Mobile, Alabama.

Indiana linebacker Cam Jones was selected to play in the Reece’s Senior Bowl on Friday. He will represent the Hoosiers in the most prestigious postseason all-star game. Jones played in 47 games as a Hoosiers, however he missed the final seven games of the 2022 season.

It’s award season for the Big Ten football as the regular season and Indiana’s freshman running back Jaylin Lucas is taking home some hardware. Lucas is the first freshman and first Hoosier to earn the Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year Award in its history.

The Indiana Hoosiers were without starters Cam Jones and Aaron Casey against Purdue Saturday afternoon, which lead IUto start true freshman Kaiden Turner. Turner ended up leading the Hoosiers with nine total tackles (seven solo). It’s not what IU wanted, but it gives the Hoosiers a glimpse into the future of a player who has been compared to former IU linebacker Micah McFadden.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Hoosiers have been strong throughout the first three quarters of games this season, but struggled during the fourth quarter. This past weekend against Maryland the Hoosiers struggled in both stopping the run and in the passing game.

The Hoosiers hit the road for the first time during 2022 on Saturday when they travel east to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats. IU comes in at 3-0 while UC sits at 2-1. These two teams faced off last season, a 38-24 win or the playoff bound Bearcats. While there are multiple match-ups that intrigue, there is one we will keep a close eye on and it involves IU’s linebackers and Cincinnati’s rushing attack.

Every single Hoosier fan was holding their breath and either cursing or praying as Indiana linebacker Cam Jones was writhing around the Memorial Stadium turf holding his ankle Friday night. Everyone knows how important Jones is to the Hoosier team. It was his sack on the first Illinois drive that helped stall a promising Illini drive.
