The Indiana Hoosiers will be replacing both starting linebackers from last season in Aaron Casey and Jacob Mangum-Farrar. IU did hit the transfer portal for several impact linebackers including both starters from James Madison and Jayden McDaniel from Troy. Hoosier Huddle broke down the linebacker position battle earlier this spring, but here is a look at the whole spring.

Jacob Mangum-Fararr started all 12 games at linebacker for the Hoosiers in 2023, many thought he would hang it up and move on. However, Mangum-Fararr is switching to the ‘stud’ defensive line position and is looking to be more productive for IU in 2024.

There was plenty of change surrounding the Indiana football program after the team’s third-straight loss to Purdue. Tom Allen was fired, players entered the portal and other declared for the NFL Draft. Offensive lineman Mike Katic was one of those players who was preparing for the NFL Draft until offensive line coach Bob Bostad called him and floated the idea of playing center at IU in 2024.

The Indiana defensive line is one of the bigger concerns heading into spring practice. The Hoosiers are extremely thin in the middle of the line as several key players are recovering from postseason surgeries and Philip Blidi announced he was entering the transfer portal. IU’s defensive line will consist of a defensive end, two defensive tackles and a rush end called the stud.

The Hoosiers have had a bumpy ride at the position ever since Michael Penix Jr transferred to Washington, but it appears things are on the upswing once again as we enter spring. Indiana football’s spring practice opens up on Thursday, March 21st. Today we turn our attention to the tight end position, which has been lacking at IU since Peyton Hendershot left for the NFL. If you were a player looking to start in the Power Five and go against the best receiver in college football in 2023-24, Indiana figures to be a pretty good match for you. With long-time starters Tiawan Mullen and Jaylin Williams off to the NFL Draft, IU will roll two new starters out at corner when Marvin Harrison Jr. comes to town to open the season. Add in Chris Keys and Brylan Lanier hitting the portal, and IU is looking at a position group with their top four players on the depth chart last season not on the roster for 2023-24.

The Indiana Hoosiers hit the indoor field at the Mellencamp Pavilion on Tuesday for spring practice number two. There has been plenty of turnover for the Hoosiers both on the field and in the coaching staff. Head coach Tom Allen has brought in three new on field coaches this season so this spring is seeing how the new coaches are becoming entrenched in the program.
