Hoosiers Offense Can’t Find Rhythm in Loss to Notre Dame

Coming into the first round of the College Football Playoff, the Indiana offense was averaging 426.4 yards per game and a whopping 41.3 points per game. On a cold night in South Bend, the Hoosiers looked to keep this success going. Unfortunately for IU, the offense was uncharacteristically out of rhythm. In the first half, the Hoosiers had four drives reach Notre Dame territory, only to come away with three points, as three punts and an interception stalled many of their promising drives.

All eyes will be on South Bend this Friday where the #10 Indiana Hoosiers will take on #7 Notre Dame. This is the first CFP matchup ever between two schools in the same state, and the hype surrounding “The Battle For Indiana” has been building to a fever pitch. For the Hoosiers watching the media coverage, déjà vu of their Week 13 loss against Ohio State has likely begun to set in. True to their motto, this Indiana team is not daunted by the hype but rather eager to solidify their place as an emerging power with a victory.

The Indiana Hoosiers have been the fairy tale team all season as they earned their way to their first playoff berth in school history and first 11-win season in school history. It is kind of all unbelievable. The kind of stuff you only see in movies. For the players and coaches at IU, there was belief that they could go as far as they wanted to back in fall camp.

The Bucket is home, and there is only one way to celebrate: a Waffle House dinner with plenty of Maple Missile Syrup. The Hoosiers got their first win over Purdue since 2019 in emphatic fashion on Saturday, hanging 66 points on the Boilermakers. With this win, Indiana was able to both reclaim The Old Oaken Bucket and add some much-needed style points to their CFP resume. This was in large part thanks to the superb connection between Kurtis Rourke and Elijah Sarratt.

Heading into the game on Saturday, it was clear that the Indiana offense had to have their best game of the season in order to get the win. Unfortunately, that did not happen. The Hoosiers struggled to move the ball, ending the game with a season-low 151 yards of total offense.

No Joey Galloway, Kurtis Rourke Won’t Sit vs. Ohio State

Written By: Ben Gillard (@benjgillard

I can’t believe I have to say this, but no, IU will not be sitting their star QB for their top-5 matchup against Ohio State this Saturday. Yet this was ESPN pundit Joey Galloway’s take on Tuesday’s CFP show. Galloway said, “If I’m Indiana, I don’t know if I’m playing Rourke against Ohio State…What could keep Indiana out of this? Getting their quarterback hurt.” At the same time that Galloway was floating this contender for worst take of the year, Kurtis Rourke was speaking to the media in Bloomington, excited at the opportunity of a top-5 matchup.
