 2019 Countdown - #76

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff is rolling as we hit the mid-70s to highlight one of the most talked about true freshmen in the 2019 class, Matthew Bedford. After a stand out high school career, Bedford played in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl at AT&T Stadium and the 2018 East-West All-Star Classic.

Bedford was one of Tom Allen and his staff’s most important signees in the 2019 class. The Hoosiers needed to start building young, quality depth along the offensive line and Bedford is a great pillar to build around.

After running over 100 snaps in their scrimmage on Saturday, the Hoosiers were back on the field in shoulder pads to start the final third of spring practice. It was also a special day in Bloomington as many former Hoosiers took part in IU’s Pro Day.

Spring Practice Day Three Notables

The Hoosiers were back on the practice field on a day that felt more suited for skiing than spring football. Spring Practice Starts in Twelve Days, Here is What You Need to Know About IUFB as They Transition into 2019

Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The Indiana Hoosiers will open their 2019 spring practice session on March 2nd and wrap up with their annual Cream and Crimson game on Friday April 12th. IU is coming off of frustrating back-to-back 5-7 seasons. Tom Allen is entering his third spring as Indiana’s head coach after taking over the helm prior to the Foster Farms Bowl in 2016. His record sits at 10-15 and 4-14 in conference.

The Hoosiers enter spring practice with some recruiting momentum as Allen and his staff inked one of the best classes, if not the best, in school history. However, the Hoosiers also come with plenty of uncertainty.

Over the next couple of weeks HoosierHuddle.com will preview positions, players who may fly under the radar and much more from spring practice, but for right now here are the items surrounding spring ball to watch.

Matthew Bedford, 6’5”, 260 pounds, Cordova, TN (Cordova), OT, 247Sports Composite Ranking: 3-star (85.93)

Matthew Bedford, an offensive lineman from Cordova High School in Tennessee, stands 6-foot-5, 260-pounds. As is always the case, the more offensive and defensive lineman you can add to your program the better. Fresh, big bodies are always paramount in having a chance at success in the Big Ten. Bedford provides just that. While he will need to adjust to the physicality of the college game, all the tools are there.

Indiana Football Will Be Hosting Major Prospects on a Huge IU Sports Weekend

Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

A big weekend in Indiana sports is upon us. The men’s soccer team is out on the west coast trying to complete their “Quest for Nine” in the College Cup. The men’s basketball team is hosting Louisville Saturday afternoon and the undefeated women’s basketball team will go for 9-0 on Sunday against Missouri State in Bloomington on Sunday. While these programs are looking for success on the pitch and the hardwood, the Hoosier football team will be trying to improve their future off the field by hosting 15 prospects that could help Tom Allen and his staff improve upon back-to-back five-win seasons. Here is the breakdown of prospects that will be in Bloomington this weekend from the list given to us by Matt Weaver of Peegs.com (Thanks, Matt):
