Amare Ferrell, a holdover from the Tom Allen regime, has emerged as a star in the Hoosiers defense. Last week against UCLA, Ferrell made the only interception of the game and also recorded a sack and 6 tackles. As a sophomore, Ferrell has really stood out as a defensive threat for the Hoosiers.

Indiana had its first Big Ten matchup against UCLA Saturday night and boy did they not disappoint. Throughout the week, Coach Cignetti harped on the fact that their trip to Pasadena would strictly be a business trip, and they treated it just like that. The Hoosiers marched into the Rose Bowl stadium to take care of business and walked out with a 42-13 victory.

The past few seasons for the Indiana secondary have not been kind. After a lot of hype and excitement surrounding a returning young core, the potential was never realized and Indiana gave up average passer ratings of 143.62 in 2023 and a shockingly bad 152.42 in 2022. Curt Cignetti and defensive coordinator Bryant Haines retained some of IU’s returning secondary players and hit the transfer portal to upgrade at both cornerback and safety. IU needs to create more takeaways in the secondary and make life more difficult for opposing passing attacks.

We’ll get our first look at first-year head coach Curt Cignetti’s progress with the team this week as Indiana football officially kicks off their spring game Thursday night at 8pm inside Memorial Stadium. The spring game will mark the end of the spring practice session which lasted roughly a month.
