The hype and excitement surrounding Curt Cignetti’s first season as the head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers is real and the hope the serial winner’s arrival has injected into the fan base is meaningful. Along with the changes in the coaching staff, the roster has undergone a major transformation with newcomers from the transfer portal and the high school ranks at every position on the squad.

Hoosier Huddle is getting ready for the 2024 football season and with a new coaching staff and a totally revamped roster, Indiana Hoosier fans are going to need a roster handy to track all of the new faces. Much attention has been paid to the major revamp on offense under coordinator Mike Shanahan and Tino Sunseri, including our very owner initial depth chart projection just last week. However, the defense needs to be completely rebuilt as well. Once a calling card for Tom Allen’s teams, the IU defense was a sieve for much of the past few seasons. In 2023, Indiana allowed an average of 29.9 points per game including an opposing passer rating of 143.62 and 4.19 yards per rush. There were a few bright spots here and there but the unit was a major disappointment that needs fixed.

Amare Ferrell was a heralded four-star prospect out of high school and true freshman from the Sunshine State. With a big frame and tremendous athleticism, he has a chance to be a factor for the defense the rest of the season. Last Saturday Ferrell stepped up and recorded seven tackles showing Allen and the staff what he brings to the table.

The Husky position is IU’s hybrid defensive back/linebacker spot and provides the defense with a very versatile spot. Noah Pierre returns to IU to fill the gap at the position while youngster Amare Ferrell and Jordan Grier will try and provide depth at the position.
