Today was homecoming in Bloomington, and the Indiana defense certainly put on a show for the alums who made the trip down for the Hoosiers 56-7 rout of Nebraska. The IU defense was swallowing up Cornhuskers faster than Indiana native Joey Chestnut could swallow cheeseburgers at halftime. The Hoosiers “attack the ball” mentality certainly paid off this afternoon as they came away with a season-high five turnovers.

The Hoosiers beat the Charlotte 49ers in a dominant fashion, winning the game 52-14 Saturday afternoon. This is the fourth week in a row where Indiana has dominated its opponent and most likely won’t be the last. While the Hoosiers’ defense held the 49ers to a mere 14 points, they seemed to struggle at times in their run defense in the first half and early in the 3rd quarter. However, following a 4th and 1 stop in the 3rd quarter, their struggles seemed to subside.

Over the past 100 days, the Hoosier Huddle staff featured every player on the 2024 roster in anticipation of the season opener tomorrow, August 31st, against the FIU Golden Panthers. The past few seasons for the Indiana secondary have not been kind. After a lot of hype and excitement surrounding a returning young core, the potential was never realized and Indiana gave up average passer ratings of 143.62 in 2023 and a shockingly bad 152.42 in 2022. Curt Cignetti and defensive coordinator Bryant Haines retained some of IU’s returning secondary players and hit the transfer portal to upgrade at both cornerback and safety. IU needs to create more takeaways in the secondary and make life more difficult for opposing passing attacks.

We’ll get our first look at first-year head coach Curt Cignetti’s progress with the team this week as Indiana football officially kicks off their spring game Thursday night at 8pm inside Memorial Stadium. The spring game will mark the end of the spring practice session which lasted roughly a month.
