/Written By Nick Gonzales (@nrgonzales_)
The 2024 Hoosier Huddle Countdown to kickoff continues with 25 days until the start of the Hoosier’s football season! Every day, we take a look at players on the current roster and highlight their roles in the upcoming season. With just a few weeks left for our countdown, today we are looking at number 25, defensive back Amare Ferrell.
Name: Amare Ferrell
Hometown: Lake City, Florida (Columbia)
Position: Defensive Back
Year: Sophomore
Height/Weight: 6’2”/200 pounds
Social Media: Twitter: (@AmareFerrell_)
Ferrell will be an exciting player to watch this season. Standing at 6’2” and 200 lbs, the 3-star recruit (per 247Sports) is slated to start as the Rover for the Hoosiers. He appeared in all 12 games in the 2023 season, and he recorded 9 solo tackles as a freshman, 7 of those tackles occurred during the Rutgers game (10/21/23). Now coming into his sophomore season, Ferrell is expected to make a big impact early on for the Hoosiers.
What stands out when you first look at him is his size. He’s a big defensive back, but his size isn’t all he’s got. During Indiana’s Spring Game, Ferrell made it clear that he is a star! He was locking up wide receivers, reading the offense, and stopping run plays. He’s a fast and explosive player that is also a sure tackler. Just as a sophomore, Ferrell is already looking like a potential future NFL prospect.
“Really good football player. Really, he’s a guy that we’ve said, you know what, we’ve got to get him involved on special teams, and he’s risen on the depth chart.” Former head coach Tom Allen said while talking about Ferrell during August of last year.
Ferrell is ready to make some magic on the gridiron. Ferrell is likely to start at the new rover position on defense this season. Indiana has a bright future with Ferrell in the defensive secondary.
The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff continues with Day 24 tomorrow!
