Eight former Hoosiers will be on hand in Bloomington to take part in Indiana Football's Pro Day on March 31st. Pro Day is an opportunity for players who were not invited to the NFL Combine to show their talents to NFL scouts and a chance for those who did participate in the combine to improve upon their performances. The only Hoosiers to do drills at the combine this year were offensive lineman Dan Feeney and running back Devine Redding. The six other former IU players who will be working out Friday are OL Dimitric Camiel, DL Ralph Green III, WR Ricky Jones, WR Mitchell Paige, RB/LB Clyde Newtown, and LB Marcus Oliver.

2016 Offensive Line Preview: Once Again The Big Guys Upfront Will Pave the Way For IU's Offense

2016 Offensive Line Preview: Once Again The Big Guys Upfront Will Pave the Way For IU's Offense

Written By Lydia Knoll

Indiana has had some star offensive players the last couple of years, including recent NFL draftees Jordan Howard and Nate Sudfeld just to name a few. But the offensive players that are sometimes overlooked also happen to be the guys who make it possible for players like Howard and Sudfeld to show off their skills. These guys are the building blocks of a steady football program, the offensive linemen.

Indiana’s offensive line allowed the least amount of sacks in the Big Ten last year, allowing only 13 sacks. With the help of their line, they were able to generate the most productive total offense in the Big Ten with a total 6,556 yards, averaging 504.3 yards/game and 6.23 yards every play. The 6,556 total yards also happened to be 746 yards more than the second highest total offense in the Big Ten. The offensive line also opened up holes to allow for the second best rushing offense in the Big Ten averaging 210.46 yards/game. Unfortunately, Indiana has lost one of their best offensive lineman, Jason Spriggs, to the Packers but with a strong core of veterans, including All-American Dan Feeney, this group continues to be the bedrock on which IU builds their offense.

The Young Indiana Offensive Line Has Coach Frey Instead of XBox This Spring

The Indiana Hoosiers sported two All-Americans along the offensive line in 2015 and return one of them, Dan Feeney, as well as some other veterans like Jacob Bailey and Dimitric Camiel in 2016. But it is the young talent and the job that coach Greg Frey does on and off the field and the line will be a strength for years to come. Young talent who just a year ago were, playing XBox, or running track or playing intramural basketball. Now you have coach Frey, It’s new for them. You’re seeing them acclimate. Its really the finish of the first college year, but the beginning of next season."

Caton Emphasizes Energy and Explosiveness In Off-Season Workouts

Wednesday was a typical mid-winter day in Bloomington. The rain was pounding down on the turf of Memorial Stadium outside of the North End Zone weight room. There was a threat of significant snowfall in the forecast for later in the evening. It was a perfect day to stay under a blanket and watch re-runs of Family Guy on Netflix. Instead we were standing in the weight room waiting for the football team to make the short job over from the Mellencamp Pavilion. Suddenly the atmosphere transformed from a crummy Wednesday into a warm September Saturday as the players whooped it up outside the glass doors and the strength staff cranked up the stereo, before the team burst into the room as if they were taking on the national champs.

2016 Spring Preview: Offensive Line

2016 Spring Preview: Offensive Line

Coming into the 2016 season, Indiana University will be missing some of it’s strongest players from this past season. The offensive line is no exception, taking a hard hit from loosing key player Jason Spriggs, who has gone from a good three-star high school athlete to a stellar All-American offensive linemen. Spriggs decided at the end of the 2015 season to enter the NFL draft and is expected to be a possible second round draft pick. However, despite losing Spriggs, we will see the return of Spriggs counterpart, Dan Feeney.
