The Hoosiers received word that another starter will be opting back in for the 2021 season as offensive lineman Mackenzie Nworah decided to take advantage of the extra year of eligibility. Nworah redshirted in 2016. During his five seasons with Indiana Nworah has played in 27 games with 15 starts. He was an Academic All-Big Ten selection and an Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List Nominee in 2020.

2020 Position Preview – Offensive Line: Can the Hoosiers Line Push Through to the Next Level in 2020?

Written by Andrew Walker

Historically, the offensive line for the Hoosiers have been… hit or miss depending on the season. Some great, some good, some really bad. That’s just how the cookie crumbles. When it comes to 2020’s offensive line, there still remains some questions. Partially due to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, the public hasn’t been able to see exactly what’s going on at fall camp. Usually, the media and therefore the public would have a pretty good idea of what’s going to be the starting lineup. This year is slightly different. Sure, the five, six, seven best offensive linemen are going to get a majority of the minutes. That’s a given.

Five Items the Hoosiers Need to Check-Off Their Spring Practice To-Do List

Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The Indiana Hoosiers will open up their spring football practice session on March 7th, 2020 and conclude it with their annual Cream and Crimson Game on Friday April 17th, 2020 at 7pm in Memorial Stadium. Spring practice is a time of growth and development for the players who have been around the program as last year’s seniors have moved on and next year’s freshmen (outside of the nine early enrollees) haven’t arrived yet. While it may not drum up a ton of excitement, there are things that Indiana football has to do over the next two months to help ensure the 2020 season is a successful one, here they are:

Where Indiana's Offensive Line Stands After the Departure of Coy Cronk

Where Indiana's Offensive Line Stands After the Departure of Coy Cronk

Written by: TJ Inman (@TJHoosierHuddle)

The Indiana Hoosiers entered the 2019 season expecting to be without left tackle Coy Cronk when they took the field in 2020. The senior had started more than 30 games for the Hoosiers and was hoping to wrap up his career by helping the Hoosiers to a bowl berth. However, Cronk was lost for the season to injury during the UConn game. He was able to medically redshirt but instead of returning to Bloomington for his senior season, Cronk is transferring to Iowa. While there was a period of time when it appeared IU would have the luxury of moving Coy Cronk to guard and starting him on the interior of the line, the staff will now need to piece together a unit that still has some returning talent and lots of intriguing pieces to plug into place.

Countdown to 2019 IUFB Kickoff: 51 Days (Mackenzie Nworah)

Written by Amanda Pavelka

COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: #51 MACKENZIE NWORAH

Height: 6’4”

Weight: 310 pounds

Hometown: Houston, Texas (Manvel)

Year: Redshirt Junior

Position: OL

Less than two months remain until the long-awaited 2019 Indiana football season. The Hoosiers will make their season debut at Lucas Oil Stadium where they will take on the Ball State Cardinals on August 31st in a noon game. With 51 days remaining, it is only appropriate to talk about the man who will represent the Hoosiers’ No. 51 jersey— Mackenzie Nworah.

You’ve heard his name before, but it’s been a while. In 2017, he started six games and played in ten at right guard. Indiana’s offensive player of the game in their 41-0 win over Rutgers was none other than Nworah.

Nworah’s had a knock-down, drag-out fight with injuries since then, and unfortunately had to sit out most of the 2018 season to recover. For a guy with the perfect size and frame for the offensive guard job, he was one of the most painful sights on the Hoosier bench. He traded time on the field for time in the books and ended up contributing to the IU football program’s record, being one of 29 guys to earn Academic All-Big Ten Honors in 2018.

Although no official word, Nworah’s comeback is hopeful and he’ll likely be called upon as next man up at offensive guard.

Spring Practice 2018 Position Battle: Offensive Line

Spring Practice 2018 Position Battle: Offensive Line

This is one of the most interesting position groups on the team. There are some anchors that have been through the ringer so far in their careers, coupled with some unknowns. That type of combination can be worrisome, or exciting, depending on how you look at the situation. IU isn’t losing much personnel wise for 2018, so the battles for starting spot this year will be very, very interesting. Certain spots on the line (cough, cough, left side) are already locked down, so essentially it’s a three spot position battle for this upcoming season. Second year offensive line coach Darren Hiller has some options to work with, and Coach Allen’s philosophy of having a multitude of bodies up front to rotate in is starting to take shape.

Week Four Match-up to Watch: Georgia Southern's Front Seven vs. Right Side of IU's Offensive Line

Week Four Match-up to Watch: Georgia Southern's Front Seven vs. Right Side of IU's Offensive Line

Written By Alex Compton (@Alexncompton)

IU took care of business in week two. It was far from pretty in the first fifteen minutes, but eventually the offense put some points on the board and helped out a defense that flexed their muscles for the entire game. My matchup of Crawford and Fields did a solid job of keeping the UVA receivers in front of them for the most part, and it really showed that the Hoos just couldn’t create enough positive yardage consistently to put pressure on IU. After waiting forever for the season to start, it seems like four months have passed between the game in Virginia and now. IU will look to win consecutive games for the first time in the Tom Allen era come Saturday, and the matchup to watch will play a big part in trying to do that.
