The second part of our double-header on this Throwback Thursday looks back at Indiana’s sloppy 33-27 win over Rutgers. Indiana had four turnovers, botched several field goals and extra points and probably should have won this game by 20 or more points. While the overall quality of play was disappointing the Hoosiers netted their fifth win of 2016 and climbed over the .500-mark in November.

Indiana had no right being in yesterday’s game, when you consider how poorly it performed on critical downs, its inability to take care of the ball and its lack of composure, committing some very untimely penalties. And in year’s past, with all those things factored in, Indiana would not have been within shouting distance of their opponents. So, in some weird way, could yesterday’s loss be encouraging?

While that might be a stretch, Indiana certainly exhibited some resiliency, a trait that has been carefully cultivated over Kevin Wilson’s tenure. After a very rough 2014 campaign, the Indiana Hoosiers wide receivers bounced back in a big way and had a solid 2015 season. In fact, the Hoosiers had three receivers exceed 650 yards on the season (Paige with 684, Jones with 906 and Cobbs with 1,035 yards) and eight receivers with double-digit catches. There were still some issues with drops but most of the pass catchers return in 2016 and this is one of the deepest positions on the IU roster.
