“JUICE. JUICE. LET’S SEE SOME JUICE TODAY!” New Defensive Line Coach Pat Kuntz implored his players in a practice video posted to IU Football’s social media pages. The Indianapolis native returns to IU following a stint with Coach Cignetti at James Madison University. Upon his return, he had his work cut out for him, replacing a line decimated by outgoing transfers and graduations. Coach Kuntz has done his job and created a unit that is hungry to “bring the juice” this season.

Hoosier Huddle is getting ready for the 2024 football season and with a new coaching staff and a totally revamped roster, Indiana Hoosier fans are going to need a roster handy to track all of the new faces. Much attention has been paid to the major revamp on offense under coordinator Mike Shanahan and Tino Sunseri, including our very owner initial depth chart projection just last week. However, the defense needs to be completely rebuilt as well. Once a calling card for Tom Allen’s teams, the IU defense was a sieve for much of the past few seasons. In 2023, Indiana allowed an average of 29.9 points per game including an opposing passer rating of 143.62 and 4.19 yards per rush. There were a few bright spots here and there but the unit was a major disappointment that needs fixed.

No Bull - IU needs to improve its pass rush. While Indiana has had good, and even great, defenses since Tom Allen has been at Indiana, the consistent knock on his defenses has been pass rush - especially without blitzing. Last season, Indiana was 102nd in the country with 20.0 total sacks, ranking just behind UAB and just ahead of Akron.

The Hoosiers transfer haul adds a much needed linebacker in Lanell Carr from West Virginia. It marks another player that IU targeted out of high school to head to IU through the portal. Carr signed with West Virginia out of high school in 2019, when he was a three-star prospect out of St. Louis.
