In 2024 when you think of an Indiana football game, you’re usually thinking a blowout where Indiana’s offense dominates the scoreboard, which is still very surprising to think about. However, the Hoosiers experienced nothing but a defensive battle against the defending National Champions – after opening up a 17-3 lead. CJ West and the Hoosiers Go Under Serious Preparations

Written By: Nick Gonzales (@nrgonzales_)

The Hoosiers have been shocking on both sides of the ball this season. Their offensive is explosive and seems as if no one can stop them, and their defense is domineering, especially as of late with 9 turnovers, 12 sacks, and 28 tackles for loss in their last three games. They rank fourth in the FBS in sacks (31) and fifth in tackles for loss (69). Plus, against Michigan State, the Hoosiers combined for 31 quarterback pressures, a blocked punt that resulted in a safety, and a punt deflection. Where can all their success be credited to? Well in Tuesday’s player media availability, defensive lineman, CJ West, attributes it to their intense preparation for games.

Here’s How IU Stacks Up Against Michigan’s Defense

Defense wins championships. Michigan’s stout defense was a big part of their championship run last season. Over the past couple of seasons, the Wolverines have consistently had a top-10 defense, culminating last year with a defense that didn’t allow more than 24 points a game and a best in FBS stop rate of 87.4%. While these are impressive numbers, the 2024 Michigan defense looks way more “human” than past years, and there are a myriad of ways in which the Hoosiers can beat them.
