Throwback Thursday: Pinstripe Bowl Duke 44 Indiana 41

Throwback Thursday: Pinstripe Bowl Duke 44 Indiana 41

Well, it's time for the final recap of our Throwback Thursday of the summer. Today we take a look back at the Hoosiers first bowl game since 2007. The Pinstripe Bowl was special, especially being from New York, but it was ultimately the cherry on top of a season filled with close calls. This was one of the better bowl games of the 2015 season and I would not be shocked to see this in ESPNU's Top-25 Games.

We are back in the win column on this Throwback Thursday as the Hoosiers dug themselves out of a 21-3 first half hole to go on a 44-7 run and get their fifth win of the season and their first in the Big Ten. This game impressed me because we have all seen this before. A game where the Hoosiers don’t get a bounce or a call, or an injury happens and they pack up shop. However, this team remained steady as things looked like they were crumbling and crawled out of the hole and ran away from Maryland.

Opponent: Maryland Terrapins

Location: Saturday November 21st/12:01pm/ Byrd Stadium/ (College Park, MD)

Why They Played

This is the second meeting between the Terps and Hoosiers since 1935 (two prior). Maryland won the match-up last season in Bloomington 37-15. IU and UMD will meet annually as part of the Big Ten East.

Hang in there folks, wins are right around the corner as is a nice three-day weekend. In today’s installment of Throwback Thursday we take a look back at one of the most exciting and excruciating games in the last 20 years for the Indiana Hoosiers as they welcomed the Michigan Wolverines in for Senior Day. This was a classic back-and-forth battle that went into double overtime and ended a few inches shy of triple overtime.

We are entering the final 1/3 of the 2015 regular season in our Throwback Thursday Series. Today we look back at IU’s 35-27 loss to Iowa. The score of closer than the game actually was as Nate Sudfeld struggled against a stout defense and Jordan Howard’s monster effort just could not get them over the hill. Whether or not you thought Iowa’s 12-0 regular season was a little fluky, this was still a very strong Iowa team and Indiana could have easily had their will broken early on, but IU fought until the end and really set up for an exciting stretch run.

Opponent

Iowa Hawkeyes

Location

Saturday November 7th /3:37pm/ Memorial Stadium/ (Bloomington, IN)

Why They Played

The Hawkeyes and Hoosiers met as their crossover game with the West Division

What The Game Meant

Coming off a bye week the Hoosiers were rested and ready to knock off their first top-10 team since 1987. The game would have rejuvenated the fan base that has grown frustrated with what is now a five-game losing streak.

This week’s Throwback Thursday chronicles IU’s “closer than the score looks” loss to the Michigan State Spartans. This was the final game before IU headed into their much-needed open week. The Hoosiers just seemed to run out of gas in the fourth quarter after a grueling opening to the Big Ten slate facing Ohio State and Penn State before taking on Michigan State. Staying true to the theme of 2015, IU was close to knocking off a top-10 team, but just couldn’t get over that last ridge.

Why They Played:  The Hoosiers and Spartans meet annually now for the Old Brass Spittoon as part of the Big Ten East.

This Throwback Thursday is painful. As my mother said to me the next day, “I feel like I had been in a car wreck”. While this game could have easily put a nail in the coffin of the 2015 season, and this was the kind of game that ended seasons in the past, the Hoosiers bounced back to reach six wins and play in the Pinstripe Bowl. However, if the Hoosiers want to take the next step in the evolution of the program they have to beat teams like Rutgers and Maryland regularly. IU will be looking for revenge when they head to Rutgers this season on November 5th.

Opponent: Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Location: Saturday October 17th /3:37pm/ Memorial Stadium/ (Bloomington, IN)

Why They Played:  The Hoosiers and Scarlet Knights will now play every year as part of the Big Ten East Division

This was a tough game to look back on because there are a lot of what ifs. What if Nate Sudfeld's ankle had been 100 percent? What if Jordan Howard did not suffer a high-ankle sprain in the first half? What if pass interference was called on the final play? Indiana had the champs on the ropes and let them off the hook. This was the first close call for the Hoosiers, in a season filled with close calls.

On this Throwback Thursday we are wrapping up the 2015 non-conference schedule with IU's victorious trip to Wake Forest. Indiana moved to 4-0 for the first time since 1990 and would be in contention for a visit from ESPN's College Game Day. However this game proved to be costly as quarterback Nate Sudfeld hurt his ankle that would limit him to just the first half against Ohio State and keep him out against Penn State. However, a road win against a Power-Five team is impressive and IU needed to go 4-0 in the non-con to qualify for a bowl.

Welcome to another installment of our Throwback Thursday series. Today we look back at one of the more exciting games of the 2015 season as two high-powered offenses went head-to-head in a game that was filled with plenty of momentum swings. After all was said and done the Hoosiers were half way to bowl eligibility with the 38-35 win and found a budding star on defense in freshman safety Jonathan Crawford. So here is a look back at our wrap up from week three of 2015.

Welcome back to our second installment of the 2016 Throwback Thursday series. Today we are looking back at the Hoosiers 36-22 win over the FIU Golden Panthers. In an otherwise ugly game, IU provided one of the most exciting plays of the 2015 season when safety Jameel Cook put the game away with a 96-yard pick six. The victory gave the Hoosiers a 2-0 record for the first time since 2012.
