2016 Defensive Backs Preview: There's Depth And Talent, But Will Results Come?

Indiana's pass defense was atrocious last season, ranking next to last in the nation giving up 313.8 yards per game. Despite the extremely low ranking, Indiana did manage to do some things decently, and showed that they have some talent in the secondary. The Hoosiers picked off 12 passes which ranked as a tie for 56th nationally. This season the entire secondary returns, most of them healthy and ready to play in 2016. On paper this may be the deepest and the most raw talent the Hoosiers have had in the secondary, probably ever, but can they turn names on paper into results on the field? The answer to that question is probably the difference between another bowl game, possibly seven or eight wins, and spending the holidays at home.

Hoosiers CB Rashard Fant Embraces Leadership Role

Rashard Fant arrived at IU after a very successful high school career in Fairburn, Georgia. Fant was a four-star recruit that was expected to eventually be a starter in IU’s secondary. However, he was only 5’9” and many questioned whether or not his 160-pound frame would be able to add enough size to deal with the demands of high D1 football and B1G receivers. An ESPN recruiting analyst wrote about Fant in February of 2013: “Fant’s biggest detriment is likely his lack of ideal stature and height….overall, we really like Fant’s tools, but are concerned with the measurables.” Fant redshirted as a freshman in the fall of 2013 and went to work on proving those doubters wrong.

#B-TownBound: Tyler Green is Number 11 for the #CrimsonArmy15

This past weekend the Indiana Hoosiers hosted nine prospects for that were looking to be a part of the Crimson and Cream from 2015 and on. On Sunday morning coach Kevin Wilson and his staff announced that the CrimsonArmy15 is growing in both number and talent when safety Tyler Green verbally committed to play his college football in Bloomington. Green, out of Hyattsville, MD, was once an Ohio State commit and holds offers from Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina State, and Hawaii and is rated three stars by 247 Sports’ composite rankings. He is the 14th best prospect out of Maryland and the 36th best safety prospect in the country.
