Spring Preview- The Hoosier Secondary Has the Talent, Now They Need Efficiency

Spring Preview- The Hoosier Secondary Has the Talent, Now They Need Efficiency

Written by Evan McShane (@veryreasonable)

While the efficiency numbers were not great, the Indiana defense boasted a respectable secondary in 2019. The Hoosiers thrived off of creating turnovers. Indiana tied for 33rd in the country with 13 team interceptions and they tied for fifth in the country in fumble recoveries with 13. With the departure of Hoosier safety Jonathan Crawford, Indiana has big shoes to fill. Luckily, there are a number of players capable of stepping up to the plate. IU's secondary will still be young next fall, but they will have the luxury of depth. Heading into spring, the IU defensive backs appears to be one of the most talented position groups on the roster. Indiana will return several starters from last year, and Tom Allen and his staff have recruited cornerbacks and safeties very well the past few years. While it is yet to be seen which individuals will produce most, the secondary will be among Indiana's strongest units in 2019.

As the Weather Heads Back to Winter, Hoosiers Hold First Spring Scrimmage

As the Weather Heads Back to Winter, Hoosiers Hold First Spring Scrimmage

Written By Nathan Comp

While qualifications for Little 500 went on at Armstrong Stadium, the Hoosier football team was having their own qualifications in the form of their first practice scrimmage just across Fee Lane, in Mellencamp Pavilion. With the spring game now less than three weeks away (April 14th), today’s practice gave the first glimpse of how the team’s offense and defense will fare against each other. Ultimately, Coach Allen was happy with the performance and described it as “physical, with guys doing good things on both sides of the ball.” Here’s what stood out in all three facets of the game today.

Throwback Thursday: Ohio State 38 Indiana 17

Throwback Thursday: Ohio State 38 Indiana 17

Written By Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

On this Throwback Thursday we are taking a peek back at Indiana's tough loss against Ohio State. The Indiana Hoosiers have not beat the Ohio State Buckeyes since 1988, but since head coach Kevin Wilson arrived in Bloomington in 2011 the Hoosiers have given the Buckeyes some great battles and 2016 was no different. IU ultimately lost 38-17, but they put a scare into OSU and came out with their heads held high.

This game was not without its head scratching moments though. Indiana left a lot of points on the field and the offensive play calling was absolutely brutal at times. Indiana tried to force Devine Redding and the running game against a defense that was awesome against the run. IU ran the ball 50 times for 99 yards, while basically taking the ball out of Richard Lagow’s hands. Big swings in this game occurred when Indiana failed to come away with touchdowns on two trips inside the 10 and gave up a 91-yard kick return to Paris Campbell right before halftime, which led to an easy Buckeye TD. While there is no shame in losing to Ohio State in The ‘Shoe, this game was ultimately very frustrating for IU fans.

IU's Defense Should Be Solid, But Details Need To Be Ironed Out In Fall Camp

IU's Defense Should Be Solid, But Details Need To Be Ironed Out In Fall Camp

Written By Alex Compton

The Spring Game came and went. Then it went some more then it ended. A 42-36 win for Team Crimson over Team Cream in overtime, it was full of ups and downs for both teams, but as is the case with both the philosophy remains that it is a glorified scrimmage that you can’t get too high or low about. Stats weren’t even kept and we didn’t go to the effort to keep track too much because that’s not what this game was about. It was about seeing where a team stood still over three months away from opening night kickoff when they take on Ohio State. With multiple key defensive players sitting out, it was hardly a true barometer of what IU will be in the fall, but there were some things worth taking note of. Just remember, Ohio State is still three months away. Indiana didn’t do anything tonight to take a lead or put themselves in a hole against the Buckeyes. With that said, let’s take a look at how the defense fared.

Keys To A Hoosier Win Over The Wildcats In Evanston

Keys To A Hoosier Win Over The Wildcats In Evanston

Written By Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The Indiana Hoosiers head to Evanston, Illinois to face off against the Northwestern Wildcats. After losing two in a row and three of the past four games, the Hoosiers need to get back into the win column as they enter a critical three game stretch to as the pass the mid-way point of the season. Both teams are 3-3, but Northwestern is playing the best ball of their season so the Hoosiers will need to bring their best effort on the road to get their fourth ‘W’ of the season. Here are the rest of the keys to an Indiana victory on Saturday:
