Indiana Hoosiers All-Decade Team (2010-2019)

Indiana Hoosiers All-Decade Team (2010-2019)

As the decade closes out and we ring in a new year in just a few hours, I have put together my All-Decade team for the Indiana Hoosiers. This is just my opinion and I encourage discussion. The 2010’s were an up and down time for the Hoosiers as three head coaches spent time leading IUFB. The Hoosiers have had success though and some may call it the most successful decade since the 1980’s or 1990’s for the Hoosier football program. Indiana’s team won 49 games over the ten years, including six wins against Purdue (the first winning decade against the Boilermakers since the 1940’s) and qualified for three bowl games.

Indiana vs Ball State: An In-State Match-Up That Has Grown into a Competitive Rivalry

Written By Evan McShane (@veryreasonable)

Saturday will mark just the ninth meeting on a football field between Indiana and Ball State. Believe it or not, Indiana and Ball State didn’t play each other in a football game until 1997. IU football played over 100 seasons of football before finally having a battle with Ball State. The in-state rivalry is just 21 years old, and the two teams will play twice more after 2018, once at Lucas Oil Stadium in 2019 and again in Bloomington in 2020, to complete a three-game series. Although they hold the series lead, things have certainly not been in the Hoosiers’ favor as of late. Let’s take a look at the brief history of this rivalry.

Indiana Football Positional Preview: Finding the Next Wide Receiver Playmaker

Written By Nathan Comp

When Indiana was struggling in the passing game last year, an always reliable target came in the form of Simmie Cobbs. Now, Simmie Cobbs has moved on to the NFL and the Hoosiers must find a new playmaker in the receiving corps. Some up and comers, along with some proven players coming back from injury, will serve as the most likely targets for whoever ends up winning the right to line up behind center in the fall.

Spring Practice 2018 Positional Preview: Wide Receivers

Throughout the 2017 season, injuries were a problem for the wide receiver group which lead to
adjustments in the passing game and forced young players to step up. When three experienced
receivers suffered season-ending injuries early in the season, the Hoosiers needed to find
production and consistency in the group that remained healthy. Redshirt junior J-Shun Harris II
and junior Nick Westbrook both suffered from season-ending ACL tears and junior Donavan
Hale suffered a season ending injury in the third game of the season. The Hoosiers worked a
number of players into the offense at the receiver position and worked to figure out the right
combination but it was something they seemed to struggle with all season.

Largely Ignored the Past Few Seasons, Special Teams is Now a Weapon for Indiana

Largely Ignored the Past Few Seasons, Special Teams is Now a Weapon for Indiana

Spearheaded by three outstanding individual performances, Indiana’s special teams set the tone last Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia. Both the punt and punt return unit got some national attention after Haydon Whitehead was added to the watch list for the coveted Ray Guy Award, and J-Shun Harris was nominated for the 2017 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Harris was also named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after racking up over one-hundred return yards and a touchdown in IU’s win against the Hoos. Griffin Oakes joined in on the fun by making a pivotal 51-yard field goal as time expired in the first half. He followed up that act with a 48-yarder in the third quarter. Between Oakes’ four PATs, two field goals, and Harris’ touchdown; Indiana’s special teams combined for 16 of the Hoosiers 34 points. Oakes’ field goal provided a major momentum swing in Indiana’s favor heading into halftime. To top it off, Harris’ punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter all but sealed the victory.
