Indiana Hoosiers All-Decade Team (2010-2019)

Indiana Hoosiers All-Decade Team (2010-2019)

Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

As the decade closes out and we ring in a new year in just a few hours, I have put together my All-Decade team for the Indiana Hoosiers. This is just my opinion and I encourage discussion. The 2010’s were an up and down time for the Hoosiers as three head coaches spent time leading IUFB. The Hoosiers have had success though and some may call it the most successful decade since the 1980’s or 1990’s for the Hoosier football program. Indiana’s team won 49 games over the ten years, including six wins against Purdue (the first winning decade against the Boilermakers since the 1940’s) and qualified for three bowl games.

The All-Kevin Wilson Team After Five Years At IU: Part II

The All-Kevin Wilson Team After Five Years At IU: Part II

While the Hoosiers defense continues to be a work in progress, as evidenced by team turning to its third defensive coordinator in four seasons, there have still been plenty of notable players to see action on that side of the ball. Continuing our All-Kevin Wilson team, here’s our look at the top players to see action for Indiana on the defensive side of the ball. Again, this list only includes players that were recruited by Coach Wilson, both scholarship and walk-ons are eligible. Also, no consideration was given to strong versus weak-side, and we utilized a 4-3 alignment.

Former Hoosier Safety Mark Murphy Wins Big Ten Award for Sportsmanship

Even though former Hoosier safety Mark Murphy hasn't put on an IU football jersey in half a year, he is still winning awards and making Hoosier Nation proud. On Wednesday, the Big Ten announced their annual winners for the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award. Two student athletes from each of the schools in the conference were named honorees. Mark Murphy and Nakel McClinton (Outdoor Track and Field) were Indiana's recipients. According to the Big Ten release "all of the Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting".

Indiana Recognized For Excellence in Promoting the Scholar-Athlete Ideal

Indiana Recognized For Excellence in Promoting the Scholar-Athlete Ideal

College sports are many things to many different people. That makes it very difficult to define what an ideal scholar-athlete is. However, I think all can agree that excellence scholastically, athletically and as a leader are important components of most people’s vision of what the ideal scholar-athlete looks like. As part of the National Football Foundation Faculty Salutes Initiative, sponsored by Fidelity Investments, Indiana Faculty Athletics Representative Kurt Zorn is being awarded for his efforts in fostering excellence among the student-athletes. Former IU football player and Academic All-American Mark Murphy represented the Hoosiers in the 2014 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class after he maintained a 3.85 GPA as an informatics major. Kurt Zorn, IU’s Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, will be presented with a commemorative plaque and IU will be awarded $5,000 prior to April 10’s home baseball game against Rutgers.

Indiana's Tevin Coleman Named 1st Team All-Big Ten

Tevin Coleman's historic season was good enough to be named first team All-Big Ten by the media and coaches

Tevin Coleman's historic season was good enough to be named first team All-Big Ten by the media and coaches

On Monday night the Hoosiers’ Tevin Coleman was honored as one of two running backs named first team All-Big Ten. Coleman, who became the 18th rusher in FBS history to reach the 2,000-yard mark in the season finale Saturday, joins Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon as the top running back in the conference.

Coleman, a junior, had the best season ever by an Indiana University running back. He set the school record for rushing yards in a single season with 2,036 on 270 carries. That is a mind blowing 7.5 yards per carry. Coleman also scored 15 touchdowns. What may be even more impressive is that he put up these numbers while the Hoosiers did not have much of a passing game after the sixth game of the season. For his career Coleman has 3,219 yards rushing and 28 touchdowns. Coleman is also a finalist for the Doak Walker Award given to the nation's top running back.

Several other Hoosiers garnered conference awards as senior safety Mark Murphy was named the Big Ten’s Sportsmanship award winner while safety Antonio Allen, offensive linemen Dan Feeney, Colin Rahrig, and Jason Spriggs, as well as wide receiver Shane Wynn and defensive lineman Bobby Richardson all received Big Ten Honorable Mentions.
