Hoosiers at the Next Level: Nate Sudfeld, QB, Philadelphia Eagles

Nate Sudfeld | Philadelphia Eagles | QB

Nate Sudfeld’s NFL season got a lot more interesting within the last few months. The record-holding IU quarterback was released by Washington this summer, but found himself a home in Philadelphia. He was signed to the Eagles practice squad in September, and served as the third-string quarterback behind Carson Wentz and Nick Foles. After Carson Wentz went down with an ACL tear in mid-December, Sudfeld was promoted to backup quarterback. The Eagles still finished the season tied for the best record in the NFL, and will be hosting the NFC Championship game this weekend in Philadelphia. The Eagles have elected to move forward with Nick Foles as their starting quarterback. Barring injury or poor performance, Sudefeld is not likely to see game action this Sunday. However, he will be ready if his number is called.

2017 Spring Practice Preview: Quarterbacks

Written By Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

When the 2016 season ended in heart breaking fashion at Levi’s Stadium two things where clear about the quarterback situation at Indiana. One, that sideshow wildcat Zander Diamont would not be back for the 2017 season after retiring. Two, starting quarterback Richard Lagow had left the door open for a massive quarterback competition in spring practice with his performance against Utah.

Who Will Be Number One? 2016 Indiana Hoosiers Quarterback Preview

Just like that, one of the most prolific signal callers in Indiana history is gone. Nate Sudfeld is off to the NFL, after a remarkably efficient four-year career. As a senior in 2015, Nate led the Big Ten in passing yards per game, passing yards, total offense per game, total offense, touchdowns, passing, yards per completion, yards per attempt and TD-INT ratio. Sudfeld leaves Bloomington as IU’s all-time leader in passing touchdowns (61), passing yardage (7,879), 350-yard games (6), 300-yard games (11), 250-yard games (13), 200-yard games (19), four-touchdown games (5) and three-touchdown games (10),and is tied for first in 400-yard games (1).

He was underappreciated during his career, and his stellar play was not really praised until he either split snaps or missed time due to injury. Sudfeld had to share the spotlight during his career, until he was finally given the keys to the offense in his last two seasons. When he was on the field, he was one of the most productive quarterbacks in the nation, and productivity like that is really hard to replicate, let alone replace. Don’t tell that to Kevin Wilson and offensive coordinator Kevin Johns however, as that is exactly what they aim to do with a new group of quarterbacks in 2016.

Throwback Thursday: Indiana 47 Maryland 28

Throwback Thursday: Indiana 47 Maryland 28

We are back in the win column on this Throwback Thursday as the Hoosiers dug themselves out of a 21-3 first half hole to go on a 44-7 run and get their fifth win of the season and their first in the Big Ten. This game impressed me because we have all seen this before. A game where the Hoosiers don’t get a bounce or a call, or an injury happens and they pack up shop. However, this team remained steady as things looked like they were crumbling and crawled out of the hole and ran away from Maryland.

Opponent: Maryland Terrapins

Location: Saturday November 21st/12:01pm/ Byrd Stadium/ (College Park, MD)

Why They Played

This is the second meeting between the Terps and Hoosiers since 1935 (two prior). Maryland won the match-up last season in Bloomington 37-15. IU and UMD will meet annually as part of the Big Ten East.

The All-Kevin Wilson Team After Five Years at Indiana: Part I

The All-Kevin Wilson Team After Five Years at Indiana: Part I

The Hoosiers are now entering year six of the Kevin Wilson regime, giving us five years to look back on in review. But instead of looking at the collective effort of his teams, which we and everyone else has done ad nauseam, let’s take a closer look at some of the best players that Coach Wilson has had under his tutelage during that half-decade. It’s quite clear that his Indiana teams are as talented as any that we have seen in recent history, so we decided to put together the fifth anniversary All-Kevin Wilson team. This list only includes players that were recruited by Coach Wilson, both scholarship and walk-ons are eligible.
