Dan Godsil came to Indiana University from Ottawa, Ohio as a member of the 2015 recruiting class. Godsil saw action right when he stepped on campus. As a freshman, he played in all 13 games as long snapper, making seven tackles in the process. During fall camp his sophomore season, Godsil earned himself a scholarship. He again appeared in all 13 games. As a junior, Godsil played in every game as a long and short snapper. He helped Griffin Oakes hit 16-of-17 field goals during the 2017 season en route to a Big Ten Bakken-Andersen Kicker of the Year Award. Godsil was an Academic All-Big Ten selection his junior and senior seasons.
Last season, Godsil helped first-year kicker Logan Justus adjust to the college game. Justus hit 15-of-18 field goals while punter Haydon Whitehead averaged over 40 yards per punt. Godsil’s steady snapping has been an anchor for Indiana’s special teams the last several years. As a senior, Godsil was recognized as a Phil Steele second team All-American. Recently, Godsil performed at the NFL combine. He performed extremely well, breaking a few long snapper combine records. Godsil recorded the highest vertical jump at 34.5 inches and the longest broad jump (118 inches). “It’s an amazing feeling because you dream about it from a young age,” Godsil told reporters, “It’s pretty awesome and just an amazing feeling to be here.”
By the time it was all said and done, Godsil became one of just a dozen Hoosier football players to start 50 games over the course of a career. Dan Godsil served as IU’s long snapper in every single game since he arrived at Indiana. Standing 6-foot-4, 233 pounds, Godsil has the frame to compete as a professional long snapper. Heading into IU’s Pro Day, Godsil will hope to impress the scouts and make a name for himself. His long snapping career will long be remembered by IU football fans.
