Indiana’s passing attack was nowhere near good enough in 2023. The lack of consistency and explosiveness in the pass game was one of the many issues Indiana had a season ago and IU’s new coaching staff knew a lot of change was needed on that side of the ball. Hoosier fans are hoping the 2024 attack is unrecognizable as the wide receiver room was addressed in the transfer portal and a new offensive system has been installed by offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan and head coach Curt Cignetti.

Over the past several years, the Indiana Hoosiers have had some elite position groups from top to bottom. Some that come to mind after talking with our own Sammy Jacobs include the 2013 QB room with Sudfeld, Roberson, and Coffman, the 2020 CB room with Mullen, Taylor, and Williams, the 2013 RB room with Coleman, Houston, and Roberts, the 2015 OL room with Feeney, Stepaniak, Martin, and Spriggs, and even LB rooms consisting of Scales, Oliver, and Covington to McFadden, Jones, and Casey more recently.

2022 Spring IUFB Position Battles- Wide Receiver

The Indiana Hoosiers have started their spring practice session and one of the biggest questions facing the team is who will step up at the wide receiver position. IU had plenty of turnover at the position and now will be looking for a new wide receiver coach after Grant Heard bailed for UCF just days before spring practice started in Bloomington. The Hoosiers leading returning receiver is D.J. Matthews, but after losing Ty Fryfogle to the NFL Draft and Miles Marshall, Camron Buckley and Jordyn Williams among others to the transfer portal, it is time to see who can make their mark in spring practice and get a leg up on the competition for the starting spots this fall.
