Week One has come to a close for the Hoosiers and they made sure not to disappoint. Indiana defeated FIU in a 31-7 victory on Saturday. Everyone was excited to see what Curt Cignetti would do with this team and he has shown that the Hoosiers have the abilities to keep on winning. It was immediately recognizable based on how well the Hoosiers ran the ball. While the offense performed fairly well, there is still a lot to improve.

When Aaron Casey joined the Cincinnati Bengals this offseason, he left big shoes to fill. The first-team All-Big 10 linebacker was IU’s undisputed leader on defense over his career. With his graduation, the Hoosiers linebacking corps turned into a giant question mark, and what was once a strength of the defense seemed to become a weakness overnight.

The Indiana Hoosiers begin the 2024 season on Saturday and usher in a new era as Curt Cignetti coaches his first game in charge of the IU football program. The past couple of decades have not been without their highlights and exciting times: there was hope and optimism under Terry Hoeppner before his tragic passing, the Austin Starr field goal to send IU bowling, the offensive fireworks under Kevin Wilson with players like Tevin Coleman, the joy of the 2019 and 2020 seasons as IU surged under Tom Allen with Kalen DeBoer and Kane Wommack on staff. By and large though, Indiana football has provided consistent punches to the gut for Hoosier fans.

The Indiana Hoosiers close out the 2023 season with the Old Oaken Bucket game against Purdue. While both teams enter at 3-8, this is still a heat rivalry. The Hoosiers enter as a slight underdog, however if they want to end the season on a high note and claim the Bucket, they will need to improve in defending the pass after being gashed the last two weeks. This week’s matchup to watch is Indiana’s secondary against Purdue’s passing game.
