Indiana husky Noah Pierre has done everything IU and the coaching staff has asked of him. They needed him to play corner last year because of injury, he slid over from safety and fit in nicely. This year IU wants to have their best players on the field at the same time and that means moving Pierre to IU’s nickel position called ‘husky’. It’s a move that Pierre loves.

Devon Matthews, who goes by the nickname ‘Monster’, could have decided to test the NFL waters after the 2021 season and nobody would have blamed him. The Hoosiers just ended a 2-10 season and he has had a very solid career at IU. However, to the delight of his coaches and the IU fans, Matthews decided to return to Bloomington for one final go-a-round for one reason.

The Indiana Hoosiers secondary returns young, experienced talent in 2020 and the expectations for the unit are sky high. The Hoosiers went through some growing pains in the secondary in 2019 as they ranked 10th in the Big Ten in yards per game allowed (213.7). So Indiana has still has work to do on a unit that returns Tiawan Mullen, Reese Taylor, Raheem Layne and Jaylin Williams among others. The Hoosiers need to find more defining plays in the secondary.

New Safeties Coach Jason Jones Attracted to Indiana by Allen's Passion for the Game and His Players

With the promotion of former safeties coach Kasey Teegardin to special teams coordinator, Tom Allen did not have to search long to find a viable replacement that would help breed success in his fourth year at the helm of Hoosier football. 

The first time Jason Jones and Tom Allen met was in the Dallas area. They crossed paths quite a bit on the recruiting trail in 2012, and in 2013 the two ended up working together— Allen as linebackers and special teams coach and Jones at the head of defense alongside Kane Wommack’s father, Dave, at Ole Miss. It did not take long for Jones to figure out what Allen was about.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head football coach Tom Allen announced on Sunday the additions of Jason Jones as safeties coach and Kevin Wright as tight ends coach. Kasey Teegardin, who coached safeties in 2018 and 2019, has been elevated to special teams coordinator and will oversee the husky position.

In a corresponding move Kasey Teegardin, the safeties coach for the Hoosiers the last two seasons, will be named special teams coordinator.
