Tom Allen a Vocal Leader for Change Using His LEO Philosophy

Tom Allen’s message is not a new one. In fact, the Indiana University head football coach has spoken about love, acceptance and compassion for one another since the day he took over as IU’s defensive coordinator more than five years ago. The nationwide protests and civil unrest following the brutal but all too familiar murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer have made Allen’s cry to love each other, or “LEO”, more urgent than ever. Allen was the first collegiate football coach publicly speak out in support of the protests. He did not do it to be first or to grab attention. He did it because he believes in the cause.

2019 Indiana Football Positional Preview: Wide Receivers

2019 Indiana Football Positional Preview: Wide Receivers

Written by Evan McShane (@veryreasonable)

The wide receiver position is one of the deepest and most talented groups Indiana will field in 2019. Led by seniors Donavan Hale and Nick Westbrook, the sky truly is the limit with this year’s Hoosiers’ receiving corps. Of course, not without mention is the addition of Kalen DeBoer as IU’s new offensive coordinator. While Indiana’s alignment and formations may not change much, DeBoer’s desire to throw the deep ball and stretch the defense vertically should add a new dynamic to the Hoosier offense. Behind Hale and Westbrook are a stable of young wide outs ready to step into bigger roles. Whoever wins the quarterback battle will have plenty of weapons at his disposal.

Spring Preview- The Hoosier Secondary Has the Talent, Now They Need Efficiency

Written by Evan McShane (@veryreasonable)

While the efficiency numbers were not great, the Indiana defense boasted a respectable secondary in 2019. The Hoosiers thrived off of creating turnovers. Indiana tied for 33rd in the country with 13 team interceptions and they tied for fifth in the country in fumble recoveries with 13. With the departure of Hoosier safety Jonathan Crawford, Indiana has big shoes to fill. Luckily, there are a number of players capable of stepping up to the plate. IU's secondary will still be young next fall, but they will have the luxury of depth. Heading into spring, the IU defensive backs appears to be one of the most talented position groups on the roster. Indiana will return several starters from last year, and Tom Allen and his staff have recruited cornerbacks and safeties very well the past few years. While it is yet to be seen which individuals will produce most, the secondary will be among Indiana's strongest units in 2019.
