Hoosier WR Cam Wilson's Parents Found Dead This Weekend

A woman shot and killed on Friday night in Columbus, Indiana was identified to be Cassondra M. Wilson according to a report from The Republic, a local Columbus paper. Wilson, 45, was the mother of current Indiana redshirt junior Cam Wilson. Cam’s father Troy, 44, was found dead in Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon according to the same report. Troy Wilson was named a person of interest in the killing of Cassondra Wilson according to a statement from Columbus police. The entire statement reads:
Local law enforcement officers investigating the death of Cassondra M. Wilson were notified by IMPD that her former husband, Troy A. Wilson, 44, was found deceased in Indianapolis earlier this afternoon. Investigators advised that Mr. Wilson was a person of interest in the ongoing death investigation of his ex-wife who was shot and killed at a Columbus apartment complex last night.
Cassondra was the chief executive officer Columbus based company TrainerConnect, which does in-depth training for other companies. She was also a member of the Minority Business Council for the State of Indiana as appointed by Governor Eric Holcomb.
UPDATED INFORMATION (5/11/2020): According to The Republic, Bartholomew County Coroner has ruled Cassondra Wilson’s death a homicide.
Wilson also had a protective order against her ex-husband, Troy Wilson.
UPDATED INFORMATION (5/12/2020): According to a Fox59.com report an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department incident form Troy Wilson’s death was an apparent suicide.
Indiana head football coach Tom Allen released a statement on Sunday. It said:
Our thoughts and prayers are with Cam and his family. We’ve been in constant communication with Cam once we learned of this tragedy. He is a tremendous young man, and we will continue to assist and support him in any and all ways. We ask everyone to respect Cam and his family’s privacy during this difficult time.
Wilson transferred to Indiana from Illinois State after the 2017 season. He had to sit out the 2018 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Wilson played in three games in 2019 and won Scout Team Player of the Week for his efforts prior to the Nebraska and Northwestern games.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help Cameron, Jaden and Sydney Wilson with the final expenses of their mother Cassondra Wilson.
