The Indiana Hoosiers are about to fire up the football program once more, and with the new season, comes a whole new slate of position previews from Hoosier Huddle. With the success that Indiana had last season and the talent being retained on the team, there’s good reason to be very excited about this upcoming season. Today, I’m going to take a look at the Tight Ends for the Hoosiers. With Kevin Wright coming into his second season as TE coach, the excitement for this year’s TE group is off the charts.

2021 Quarterback Position Preview

If the Indiana quarterback room can get healthy over the offseason, next year should be one of the deepest pools of talent in program history. I can’t remember the last time that the Hoosiers had a roster with four different quarterbacks on scholarship – certainly not one where all four on the depth chart are projected to be so talented. This is definitely a testament to the recruiting that Tom Allen and his staff have done, building a roster that can compete on the field at the highest level while also utilizing the added depth as quality scout team members in practice.

IU brought lots of pressure to opposing quarterbacks last season and that began with the push of the defensive line. The Hoosiers had 25 combined sacks last year under defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. Wommack has since accepted a job at the University of South Alabama. IU’s new coordinator Charlton Warren will look to continue the defensive success from last season.

The receiver room will feature what is likely the most talented player on Indiana’s entire roster, Whop Philyor. Philyor announced his return for his senior year after the Gator Bowl loss stating, “unfinished business.” This article will highlight Philyor along with his other receiving counterparts, some of which may be new faces for Hoosier fans after growing accustomed to Donovan Hale and Nick Westbrook on the outside every snap.

The Hoosier’s nickel base defense employs two linebackers and the biggest hole left to fill from 2019 comes from the graduation of Reakwon Jones. Linebacker is a youthful position group for the Hoosiers, and while somewhat unproved, there’s some exciting potential.

Offensive Line

With spring football kicking off on March 7th, it’s time to focus on the 2020 football season. The Hoosiers will have to replace three starters along the offensive line. Veteran linemen Hunter Littlejohn and Simon Stepaniak both graduated, while left tackle Coy Cronk transferred to Iowa. Since Tom Allen took over head coaching duties, he and his staff have focused on bolstering the depth in the trenches. Indiana has a solid group up front with plenty of youth and good size. While the offensive line may not be the strength of the offense in 2020, this unit should hold their own and have a chance to be better than last year.

“Defensive back” is a catch-all term that applies to multiple positions on the field: cornerback, safety and in IU’s case, Husky. As a result, going into detail on every player would be information overload. We’ll go position by position and dive into detailed descriptions on where things stand heading into spring.

Spring Practice 2020 Position Preview-Quarterbacks

The Indiana quarterback room will look a little different this spring as Peyton Ramsey has moved on and early enrollee Dexter Williams joins the fray. The good news for the Hoosiers is that Michael Penix, who started seven games last season before injuries derailed his season, is back and full cleared to participate in spring ball. Jack Tuttle is also 100-percent after battling mononucleosis last spring. The Hoosier quarterbacks will be working under new offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan, who will have the eyes of Hoosier Nation staring down at him as he tries to replace Kalen DeBoer.
