The quarterback position will be the most watched group of Indiana’s spring football practices. The Hoosiers have four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, three of which are healthy enough to participate in spring ball.

To an outsider it seemed that Tayven Jackson’s transfer to Indiana took a matter of days. There was a message board rumor, then a visit and finally a commitment. It took less than a week to hit all of those steps. However, to those inside the Indiana program, the process spanned years of relationship building.

The Indiana offense sits at 11th in the nation in passes attempted, so it was shocking to see the Hoosiers throw just seven passes in two overtimes against Michigan State. Some of it was the weather, the other part was adapting the offense to the personnel on the field. The Hoosiers have transitioned from pocket passer Connor Bazelak to dual threat Dexter Williams and the IU staff has started to reshape the offense.

The loss to Ohio State was expected and by a big margin. The Hoosiers young offensive players offered glimpses of hope for the future. Quarterback Dexter Williams, Wide Receiver Donaven McCulley, Running Back Jaylin Lucas, Tight End AJ Barner, and offensive lineman Carter Smith all played during the loss.

After the Hoosiers 24-17 loss to the Scarlet Knights 11 days ago head coach Tom Allen mentioned that all positions on the team would be re-evaluated, including who starts at quarterback. Allen followed up on that though on Monday following Indiana’s bye week.
