The 2023 NFL regular season wrapped up on Sunday and there were several impactful former Hoosiers in the league this year. Let’s take a look at each Hoosier on an NFL roster in 2023.

Just hours after the 2022 NFL Draft ended on Saturday evening, four former Indiana football players signed undrafted free agent deals with teams around the league. The most recent success story from an undrafted free agent out of IU is Nick Westbrook-Ikhine who has played in 30 games with eight starts with the Tennessee Titans. In that time Westbrook-Ikhine has made 41 catches for 509 yards and four touchdowns. Here are where some familiar names will try and catch on and make an impact:

After a hectic day one of the NFL Draft, we still have six rounds and two more days of action left to complete in Las Vegas. Round 1 saw seven players from the Big Ten drafted, five from the East and two from the West, and all of whom Indiana faced last season.

After the departure of All-Big Ten Tight End Peyton Hendershot someone on the offensive side of the ball will need to step up at the tight end position. Last year, most of the production at the position came from Hendershot who finished the season with over 500 yards receiving and four touchdowns. The offense often would line up in two or three tight end sets with A.J. Barner and Matt Bjorson. However, Bjorson is no longer with the program. This season the Hoosiers have a new offensive coordinator in Walt Bell who looks to ramp up an offense that was historically bad last season. That said, the tight end position is led by a clear front runner in A.J. Barner, who I expect to get starting reps at camp, and a bunch of guys who will battle to get reps. The Hoosiers recruited two local Ohio guys who come into the program as sought-after freshmen. Now let’s dive into the tight end position.

The tight end room was one of the few bright spots for the Hoosiers offense in 2021 as Peyton Hendershot put together an All-Big Ten campaign and A.J. Barner started to show what he could do. Walt Bell’s offense will use the tight end in many different positions and even in an H-back formation. It will be different, but Hoosier fans were screaming for different things all season.

Senior Tight End Peyton Hendershot has one of the best seasons ever for an Indiana University tight end. On the season, Hendershot has 35 receptions for 400 yards and four touchdowns. He has single handily kept this Hoosiers football team in games. He credits a lot of his success to having his best off-season as a player. He broke the career receptions and yards record for an Indiana tight end last week.

Peyton Hendershot had a rocky and disappointing 2020 season after an All-Big Ten performance in 2019. His spring practice was cut short due to legal issues, his offseason was derailed by COVID and injuries which caused his on field performance to be plagued by drops and inconsistency.

The Indiana tight ends room ceiling was vastly improved when Peyton Hendershot opted to return, but he is not the only name to be excited about.
“I told the guys in our room this is probably the first time in a long time, maybe ever, that you can look in the tight end room and say ‘hey, there’s a couple NFL guys sitting in that room,” said tight ends coach Kevin Wright to the media last week.
