The Hoosiers have landed their first commitment of the 2020 recruiting cycle on Thursday when they landed Carmel H.S. (Ind.) linebacker Ty Wise. Wise is a three-star prospect and ranked as the eighth best player in Indiana according to 247 Sports. Wise holds 10 offer, mostly out of the Group of Five, and Indiana was his only Power Five offer thus far. Iowa and Purdue have been interested but had not formally offered Wise. Wise’s primary recruiter to IU was defensive coordinator Kane Wommack while defensive line coach Mark Hagen is listed as the secondary.

Wise has a very good frame at 6’2” and 210 pounds. After watching his HUDL tape Wise is positionally sound, always stays square to the ball and pursues well. He has good lateral speed and played mostly on the edge last season. He has the potential to become a good piece at linebacker over the next few years at IU. Wise will need to improve his straight-line speed, but he has plenty of time to do so.
