Michael Penix came to Indiana as a highly-touted four-star quarterback with a rocket left arm. He represented the hope for the future for IU football ever since arriving in Bloomington in 2018. He flashed his brilliance at times and helped lead Indiana to 14 wins during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, however, he never played in a bowl game and never took a snap against Purdue in the Bucket Game due to four season ending injuries and never played in more than six games in a single season. Penix entered the NCAA Transfer Portal Sunday night after four seasons with the Hoosier program.

IU has been down to just one scholarship quarterback, Donaven McCulley, after season-opening starter Michael Penix was hurt against Penn State and backup Jack Tuttle knocked out against Ohio State.

Indiana Hoosiers redshirt junior quarterback Michael Penix is “week-to-week” after suffering an injury to his throwing should Saturday night in IU’s 24-0 loss to Penn State.

“Just wanted to give an update on Michael Penix Jr. and start by saying that he does have an AC (acromioclavicular) separation in his left shoulder, so he will be rehabbing that and will be week-to-week.” Indiana head coach Tom Allen said on Monday.

The Hoosiers played their first division opponent of the season Saturday as they traveled to Happy Valley to take on the number four team in the country in Penn State. For the offense, the storyline remains the same, disappointing.

Michale Penix began the game going 1 for 10, with the sole completion being a 30 yard pass to Peyton Hendershot in the first quarter. Other than that play Indiana’s offense struggled to move the ball down field.

Indiana’s offense played their fourth game of the season against Western Kentucky Saturday.The focus for the week was efficiency and the Hoosiers did just that Saturday night.

Michael Penix looked good completing 35 of 53 passes for 373 yards with zero interceptions and a rushing touchdown. This was Penix’s season high in passing yards as well as completions.
