After the Hoosiers 24-17 loss to the Scarlet Knights 11 days ago head coach Tom Allen mentioned that all positions on the team would be re-evaluated, including who starts at quarterback. Allen followed up on that though on Monday following Indiana’s bye week.

Tuttle Time is over in Bloomington as Jack Tuttle has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal according to 247 Sports. Tuttle had not seen any game time in 2022 during the Hoosiers 3-4 (1-2) season.

The Hoosiers dove into the transfer portal this spring picking up talented wide receivers Andison Coby, Cam Camper, and Emery Simmons.

We have white smoke billowing out of the chimneys at Memorial Stadium (not really) as Indiana head coach Tom Allen announced on Tuesday that he has named a starting quarterback for the Hoosiers season opener against Illinois.

The Indiana Hoosiers held their second scrimmage on Friday morning inside Memorial Stadium. After last week, Indiana head coach Tom Allen said that the team would not disclose a starting quarterback to the public until kickoff against Illinois, but would internally make a decision shortly after the team’s second scrimmage.

Indiana returns three players that started at least one game at quarterback last season, but the final decision on who will enter the season as the Hoosiers’ QB1 is anything but clear. Michael Penix Jr has transferred to Washington. Donaven McCulley has switched positions to wide receiver. Tom Allen and his staff have gone out and grabbed Connor Bazelak from Missouri via the transfer portal. Last year’s QB2 Jack Tuttle is back for another season. Walk-on and starter of last year’s Old Oaken Bucket game Grant Gremel also returns. And finally, Dexter Williams returns from an ACL injury and has impressed coaches this fall.

Indiana head coach Tom Allen know how important the season opening game against Illinois is for his program. Allen shut down spring practice to outsiders and has limited what is seen during practice and scrimmages, so it’s not a surprise Hoosier fans, and the Illini, will have to wait until September 2nd to find out who starts at quarterback for IU.

Indiana head coach Tom Allen and offensive coordinator Walt Bell spent some time on Tuesday talking about IU’s quarterback battle. The winner of that competition will not likely be announced until the opener against Illinois. Why would it be? Everything is under wraps at IU’s fall camp. However, Friday’s scrimmage will give the staff their first look at what the coaches want to see.
