Hoosier Huddle's College Football Playoff and Bowl Projections November 3

The Indiana Hoosiers trailed for the first time all season on Saturday afternoon in East Lansing. The Hoosiers responded to falling behind 10-0 by scoring 47 unanswered points and demolishing the Michigan State Spartans 47-10 in a dominant road win. The victory moved IU to 9-0 for the first time in school history and IU is tied with Oregon atop the Big Ten standings. One week after projecting the Hoosiers into the College Football Playoff bracket as the number ten seed, we are moving IU up one place into the nine seed. That would put Indiana in an extremely interesting game at Notre Dame in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

Hoosier Huddle's College Football Playoff and Bowl Projections-October 27

In many ways, Saturday’s win over Washington felt like a celebration. ESPN’s College GameDay was in Bloomington and fans and former players celebrated Lee Corso and the 1979 Holiday Bowl squad. People flooded campus and Memorial Stadium to celebrate the outstanding 7-0 start for the Indiana Hoosiers and revel in the attention brought to the program by Curt Cignetti, his staff and his players. Longtime and long-suffering fans celebrated weeks of football that have brought so much joy after many, many years of crushing disappointment.

After a 60-minute beatdown of the previously 5-1 Nebraska Cornhuskers and a 56-7 win for Indiana, the answer ringing out from a sold-out Memorial Stadium was a resounding “YES!” There was a negative from the impressive victory though. Kurtis Rourke injured his thumb in the first half and stood in street clothes during the second half as Tayven Jackson finished the job at quarterback. Rourke is a doubt for the Washington game this weekend and the uncertainty at the most important position in the game is enough to keep them from a projection in the College Football Playoff.
