In week eight the Hoosiers will welcome in another beast from the east in the Penn State Nittany Lions. Penn State has dominated the series with a 20-1 record, Indiana’s lone win (44-24) came in 2013 in Bloomington. Last year saw the Hoosiers lose in Happy Valley 45-14, but the last time to Bloomington in 2016 the Hoosiers were a tough out, losing 45-31. This will close out a two-game homestand in the month of October. Here is what the Hoosiers could see in Week 8.

Throwback Thursday: Penn State 45 Indiana 31

Throwback Thursday: Penn State 45 Indiana 31

Written By Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

We have reached week 10 in our 2016 Throwback Thursday series and today we look back at Indiana’s 45-31 loss to the eventual Big Ten champion Penn State Nittany Lions. Indiana had caught the turnover bug at Rutgers the week before and the symptoms were carried back to Bloomington as the Hoosiers coughed up five fumbles. Had Indiana held on to just half of those fumbles, the Hoosiers probably walk away with the win. This was one of Richard Lagow’s better games as he threw for two touchdowns and no interceptions. His day could’ve been much better had some of his receivers hung on to passes that would have either been huge gains or touchdowns. The defense did its job bottling up Saquon Barkley and taking the ball away twice, but it wasn’t enough after Trace McSorley started hitting the deep passes he missed earlier in the game. When fans look back at this game, it’ll be another case of shoulda, coulda, woulda.

Top Five Quarterbacks Indiana Will Play in 2017

Written By Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

As we march through the summer and into fall camp, Hoosier Huddle will look at the top five opposing players or position groups they will face in 2017. Only players and position groups from teams on the 2017 IU Football schedule are considered.

Today, we start with the Top Five Opposing Quarterbacks. The Big Ten has plenty of great quarterbacks returning in 2016 that we will not cover. Players like Clayton Thorson of Northwestern, Tanner Lee of Nebraska, Conner Roda of Minnesota, and Nathan Stanley of Iowa are not on Indiana’s 2017 schedule.

Indiana does play against quarterbacks who are widely considered on every All-Conference list, the conference’s leading passer, and a couple potential Heisman trophy candidates, so the quality of opposing quarterbacks is pretty solid.

Indiana heads to Happy Valley in week five to face the defending Big Ten Champs, the Penn State Nittany Lions. IU has beaten Penn State just once in their history, a 44-24 win in Bloomington in 2013. The Nittany Lions return the best quarterback-running back combination in the Big Ten, a pretty good tight end as well as some playmakers on defense. This will be Penn State’s homecoming game and they’ll be sporting their retro jerseys. The Big Ten East is really rough, but this may be the toughest game on IU’s schedule in 2017.
