2021 IU Defensive Line Preview: More Production is Key to Creating Havoc

Written by: Nate Comp (@NathanComp1)

The perception of Indiana football has changed dramatically over recent years, but that will only remain if Indiana is able to consistently match up with its Big Ten East foes in the trenches.

“Anytime you can get production out of your defensive line, you can get more pass rush and you don't have to blitz to get the pass rush, it's a huge benefit,” said Indiana defensive line coach Kevin Peoples. “Those are things we're trying to work on. We're trying to make sure we're doing our job within the scheme and making the plays that come to us.”

2019 Indiana Football Position Preview: Defensive Line

Written by Evan McShane (@veryreasonable)

The Hoosiers return plenty of experience on the defensive line, but beyond the frontline there will be some questions about IU’s depth that need answered. Seniors Allen Stallings and Gavin Everett are set to anchor the defensive end spots. Stallings tied for the team lead in quarterback hurries last season while collecting two sacks, six tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. Spring Practice Day Seven Notables

March 26th, 2019

The Indiana football team was back to work on a frosty, yet sun-splashed morning as they reached the mid-point of spring practice. The Hoosiers once again were fine tuning on both sides of the ball working on individual fundamentals and special teams before heading into “team” drills. There was a workman-like, no nonsense feel at practice as head coach Tom Allen made his voice heard on the megaphone more than once about effort and creating takeaways. The Hoosiers were in shoulder pads in their second practice after spring break.

Gavin McCabe Officially Signs With the Hoosiers

Gavin McCabe, 6’3”, 250 pounds, Chicago, IL (Marist), DE, 247 Composite Ranking: 3-star (85.05 rating), former IU player comparison: Nick Mangieri

One of the major areas of emphasis for Tom Allen and defensive line coach Mark Hagen during the past two recruiting classes has been increasing IU’s talent and depth on the defensive front. Gavin McCabe, a defensive end from Illinois, chose the Hoosiers over offers from Illinois, Iowa State, Arkansas, Washington State and several others. He's a strong three-star prospect that committed to IU back in June and helped IU build a strong group of Illinois natives in the 2018 class.
