The Hoosier Huddle Countdown moves into July. Another month down and we are just 59 days away from the 2020 season opener in Madison. Today we’ll take a look at Gavin McCabe on the defensive line.

Name – Gavin McCabe

Position – Defensive Line

Year/Hometown – Redshirt Sophomore from Oak Lawn, IL (Marist)

Height – 6’4”

Weight – 286lbs

Gavin McCabe now enters his sophomore year after seeing his first collegiate action in 2019. McCabe saw snaps in IU’s wins over Eastern Illinois and Northwestern where he tallied a couple tackles. He gained some valuable experience when he saw the field in the Gator Bowl.

McCabe had a decorated career at Marist High School where he racked up 136 tackles and 14 sacks, including an undefeated season and state runner-up finish. McCabe was a top-20 player in the state of Illinois per Rivals and a consensus three-star prospect. The Hoosiers earned McCabe’s commitment over two-dozen other schools, including Arkansas, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa State, and many others.

With two years of college weight-training under his belt, McCabe hopes to carve out a bigger role in 2020. The former multi-sport athlete gives the Hoosiers some versatility up front. After getting a few glimpses of gameday as a redshirt freshman, Gavin McCabe is eager to work his way into the defensive line rotation.
