Hoosier’s Offense is Ready to Roll 8 or 9 Receivers Deep

The Hoosiers dove into the transfer portal this spring picking up talented wide receivers Andison Coby, Cam Camper, and Emery Simmons.

New Offensive Coordinator Walt Bell said that he is ready to play eight or nine different receivers under the lights on Friday.

“Overall, we will definitely play eight guys. There’s a high probability we will play nine guys. All those guys have earned a right to get on the field. Within the scheme, they all have individual skills that fit well in certain roles. You will see a bunch of guys.”

Bell spoke highly of Andison Coby a Tennessee transfer who he expects to have a breakout season.

“Number one is he’s a worker. He loves to prepare.” Bell said of Coby He likes ball. He can go out and catch ball all day every day. He’s been that way since the summer. The amount of work that he’s put in. He’s very diligent about refining his skills in life and in football. Some skills are sharp some are dull. You must work on the dull one’s.”

To go along with Coby and the talented wide receiver transfers the Hoosiers offense welcomes back DJ Matthews who is healthy and ready to go. Before his knee injury, Matthews led the Hoosier's offense with multiple 100+ yard games and a couple of touchdowns. After he got injured, it was noticeable the impact that he had when on the field.

“DJ Matthews. A proven commodity. I think for him, coming off an injury, from a conference and full game standpoint, he’s looked great the past couple weeks. He’s a guy on gameday that has an edge to him that may allow him to rise above.” Bell explained.

Bell mentioned pretty much every single receiver and had a lot of praise for the group. He has high expectations for them

“Emory Simmons has really improved.  Lots of contested catches, lot of contested plays. Andison Coby is going to be a great addition.” Bell said. I think Javon Swinton has really started to elevate his game. Cam Camper. Donaven McCulley has a really good chance at being a good player. In the spring Malachi was beat up all spring with a soft tissue injury to have him back in fall camp is exiting. I am excited about the whole group.”

Going into the season, Bell instated a new offensive scheme that he hopes will bring diversity and get the best out of his players. The depth at the wide receiver unit is legit but the Offensive line will need to allow whoever is under center whether it is Connor Bazalak or Jack Tuttle enough time to go through the right reads.
