@larsiu That's why I've always preferred the term "natural rights" over 'god given rights".

Edited to add - That's not to say that the founding wasn't based on Christian values.  I think to argue otherwise is to be argumentative for the sake of playing devil's advocate.

Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.

@larsiu Lars again those aren’t socialist programs. Medicare. Medicaid. Single payor. That’s just essentially pass through payments in reality. You are still choosing your healthcare provider. Your Dr runs a private practice.  That’s not socialism. Mamdani believes in gov control. You aren’t getting food stamps to go to Kroger. You’re shoppping at a grocery store owned by the gov.  That’s socialism.

there are all kinds of things predicated on collective goods. Hell insurance. Torts. Spreading the risk. That’s not what mamdani is. That’s not what a socialist is. Citing single payor and Medicare tacitly normalizes beliefs that are vastly different than the programs we have today

so when 66% of Dems have a positive response to socialism that scares me.  And of course the hickories are baked in and don’t know anything but even accounting for same that’s a massive number of people with views contrary to what made this country great.

public ownership wealth distribution blah blah. City grocers etc.  difficult to implement at a muny level because of our system but I don’t think being able to define it is as important as a broad recognition than it’s materially different than our system of capitalism and that 2/3 of Dems even with just a broad sense like it.

To me that's communism not socialism. In my eyes, socialism can coexist with capitalism in a blended economic model that guarantees certain services to our citizenry (and i used that word intentionally).

Do I want state run grocery stores? No.

Do I want single payor health insurance? Yes.

Am I a socialist? You decide.

Nazi.

I understand the true definition of socialism, e.g. public ownership of the means of production and equitable distribution of resources blah blah whatever AI tells me.

I'm advocating for incorporating some socialist principles into a capitalist economy. Basically any industry ending with the word "care". Healthcare, childcare, eldercare, etc.

I don't want the NHS. I don't want a government owned grocery store or hardware store or whatever store. I don't want govt owned hospitals unless it makes sense (VA, Military, etc.). I also believe most Dems don't want true socialism. They want what I just stated. So, to call them socialists is inappropriate. I don't paint the Republicans wiht the brush colored by the far right. AOC, Mamdani, and others are not the power brokers in teh Dem party and won't be unless AI really fucks our shit up.

@larsiu how on earth are they not the powerbrokers when they are the only people that have any oxygen in the party, set the narrative, and have set the agenda since kicking pelosi to the curb for the last 8 years.  There is no far left. It’s just the left

@oneeyedundertaker Christianity did not invent these moral values. They are based on Ancient Greek democratic and classically-liberal principles.

did Christianity do a great job of spreading these values? Of course - but that’s like saying United invented flight.

I acknowledged as much in an earlier post.  My math teacher didn’t invent math either, but that’s how I learned it & how to apply it…

Harris would in a heartbeat. Woke af

Aoc would in a heartbeat super woke.

stay at home Pete. Woke. Would not.

Shapiro zero chance.  Jew  looks like a 212 corporate lawyer.  That’s not Dems today

Pritzker the Fing absolute worst

i think the above clearly demonstrate that the far left is not the far left.  It’s THE left now.   Of all the woke candidates on your list I’d probably hope for newscum   He’s got no morals.  No ethics.  No principles.  So if shit started going sideways with his woke agenda and people bitched unlike the believers he’d just flip and do whatever

yeah, i'm not really excited for anybody on that list other than Shapiro and that's probably just hoping he'd be Temu Obama.

Man I'd probably fight somebody to get Shapiro v Rubio in 2028.

@larsiu that would be great.  Jd would be okay too I think once away from trump.

I’ll put any money or bet that it won’t be Shapiro. Not a chance in hell. He should have made his push. Jews are under fire. Looks nothing like Wokees.  He missed his opportunity.  So did DeSantis

hell, governor to senator isn't a bad path either. Plus you don't have to put up with the bullshit of being an ex pres. Senate would be a better place with both in it.
