It started with Chinese, the second bill was all Asia. Here's the thing, more Chinese were coming than Japanese, Vietnamese, Koreans, etc. We had brought in Chinese to build the Transcontinental Railroad, then for mining.
What is wrong with pointing out Germans, Irish, Italians were all hated too? But largely speaking, African borders did not mean much. @arthur-dent I respect your opinion Marv but I’m afraid the numbers made that individual evaluation unrealistic. You have to profile. You were the one who taught me that some country had tiers that corresponded with likelihood of admission based on their country of origin. That makes the most sense. What’s more I don’t think it’s wrong to recognize that we have core mores beliefs tenets that don’t comport with everywhere. Some family at the border from Monterey Mexico doesn’t bring the same things as a Somali or an afghan

Do you see what is going on in England and worry about too many Muslims from third world nations coming here and not assimilating? Do you give a damn about their beliefs--like if they hate homosexuals, require their women to wear burqas, etc.? That's not true. Do the math. If you work a McD's drive through in NYC at average wage, for 40/hours every single week, you'll still fall $10K below the cutoff for Medicaid eligibility for a family of 4.
At $20 an hour which is about what they start at there and 45 hours a week you are just there.
First of all, no, the average starting pay at McDs in NYC is closer to $17. Second, LOL if you think your fast food manager paying you $17/hr is going to let you get OT. The minute you hit 39:59, he's taking over your headset and making you clock out.
I drove through the Albany area not long ago and McDonald's was advertising $18 to start. Surely more in NYC. But the point remains. NYC residents don't work and consume social services at an unsustainable level.
