@bigmike Interesting! If choosing, I think I'd rather have Tiller. This guy may be a little more redundant to what an improved Sisley could provide. But looks to be pretty solid stretch 4 type of player. But if he can bang and rebound with B10 guys, bring him on! Just box score watching, it appears his rebounding and shooting percentages dipped a fair bit against the better, more physical, teams in the B12.
Ideally, we'll find and get a physical, rim protecting 5, to allow for Sherrell to not have to anchor that position. Reibe keeps coming to mind. But if we can get one of those AND a guy like this one... that'd be incredible.
Watched some highlights of Rancik......it's funny, but he really is an improved Reed Bailey. I think I saw him make more contested 2s in his highlights than RB did all year. Much more physical than RB but, statistically, still not a big-time rebounder. If we screwed by Sherrell but somehow got Reibe, he'd fit well with Reibe. He's definitely not the shot blocking 5 that Sherrell wants.
Watching some more highlights.......the guy grows on you for sure. Don't think he's 6'11"...maybe 6'10"....maybe 6'9". Hell of a ball-handler and certainly a willing 3 point shooter. In 28/M per game took over 4 3 pts attempts (often trailing the play) v. 1 attempt per game from RB at Davidson. Much more willing to mix it up than RB.
Having said all of the above.....I don't think this guy is a "dude" like some of us have been looking for. First, I don't think he's 6'11". Also, he's super skilled but fairly thin and not overly athletic. He'd be a nice piece to work with but we'd still need a couple of guys to do the dirty work.
@arioznahoosier4554 Either its a done deal, or it isn't. If there's any truth to him waiting past this visit to see if anyone else will "up the offer", or even match it, as Trilly said... its hard not to have thoughts about not wanting someone with that type of mentality. It sure sounds like IU dropped a massive bag on him, enough for him to cancel the MSU visit. If what we've dropped, and shown him, thus far isn't enough... then maybe he isn't a great fit?
As much as we desperately need someone like him. One thing that could be getting lost in all this are things like chemistry, and fit. Its o.k. to want both elite talent and great fits chemistry wise. Maybe its not realistic, at this point, though. And obviously maybe it wouldn't be an issue once Sherrell gets whatever he's needing to pull the trigger.
If you want ANY of the top bigs then that is the only option right now, period. None of these guys are taking discounts right now.
Our old friend will be playing up north. Didn't realize he was eligible.
Winthrop transfer Logan Duncomb has committed to Notre Dame, sources told ESPN. The Big South Player of the Year, Duncomb averaged 18.3 points and 8.9 rebounds — shooting 60% from the field — as one of the biggest breakout stars in all of college basketball.pic.twitter.com/dHjLzwotlz
@ams66 Yes, if we have offered him top of the market money and maybe even above that - and he wants go shop that - then I certainly would take the car dealer approach. This deal is good if you take it before leaving Bloomington today. We need this guy. But the portal is so dynamic that you can’t afford putting plans on hold while waiting on him.
I'm no mathematician, but it seems reports of IU's war chest have been low. In any case, it's good to see DD/Carr focusing on bringing in P5 (and international) guys instead of trying to construct a mid-major all-star team.
I have to say, I'm impressed with the Portal haul thus far. Now we'll see what DD is made of ... no more excuses. If this upgraded roster is close to what it's projected to be, there's no reason IU can't make it to the second weekend. Anything less would be a major disappointment and an indictment of DD's coaching chops.

I think if he makes the tourney the expectation will have been met to many. I think since we have made two tourneys in ten years simply making the tourney now will be considered a success at IU. I do not agree with that but I am just telling you what I think many will be ok with.

I think it was intentional to cool some agents off from the IU gauging, at least early on. The fact that Rabby was also pushing the narrative would confirm that.
@arioznahoosier4554 I mean yeah, making the tourney is essential. But I think most are expecting more than that. I hope Dolson is. A top-third finish in the conference, a decent seed in the tourney, making the 2nd weekend at least are pretty much minimums for me.

I am with you I think most guys on this site are just not sure if overall with all fans that is the case. It sounds like DD was given buckets of money so I would myself expect more than simply just making the tourney.

Teams from this year that didn't make it to the 2nd weekend:
1 Florida
4 Kansas
2 Gonzaga
3 UVA
The whole '2nd weekend' line in the sand is always a weird one to me when it comes to the tournament.

Yeah upsets happen, and that's the nature of the tournament and probably the most forgivable goal we might miss. But the stated goals for the progam include "deep runs" in the tournament. I don't really know if there's an official definition of a "deep run" but I think a S16 would be the minimum.
