No Bull - IU needs to improve its pass rush. While Indiana has had good, and even great, defenses since Tom Allen has been at Indiana, the consistent knock on his defenses has been pass rush - especially without blitzing. Last season, Indiana was 102nd in the country with 20.0 total sacks, ranking just behind UAB and just ahead of Akron.

Much of the offseason discussion around Indiana’s defense has centered around how the Hoosiers can replace linebacker Micah McFadden. The question is fair, certainly, but with experienced guys returning and Indiana’s heavy investment at the position in the transfer portal this offseason, the position group still projects as one of the stronger rooms on the defense.

The Indiana Hoosier football team reported to fall camp in Bloomington on Sunday evening. This marks the official star of the 2022 football season. After going 2-10 (0-9) in 2021, IU is looking to rebound and prove that last year was just a blip on the radar. While the buzz surrounding the Hoosiers is subdued this year, there are plenty of story lines to keep an eye on over the next couple of weeks. Sometimes a fresh start is exactly what someone needs to jumpstart themselves. That’s what the Hoosiers are getting in Myles Jackson, a transfer edge rusher from UCLA, who committed to IU on Saturday.
“I’m elated to get going. I’m looking forward to everything honestly. The total experience. Ready for a fresh start.” Jackson told Hoosier Huddle.

Tom Allen and his staff have hit the transfer portal hard this offseason after a disappointing 2-10 campaign last season, and they found another piece to add to the defense in former UCLA linebacker Myles Jackson. Jackson entered the portal the day after the Bruins final game of the regular season and narrowed down his list to a final four schools (Indiana, Jackson State, Georgia State, and East Carolina) on Christmas Eve. He ultimately decided to pledge his allegiance to the Hoosiers after recently visiting Bloomington.
