The Indiana Hoosiers are once again looking for a new position coach just a few days from the start of spring practice. Jaquez Smith Working Hard to Make His Mark in a Talented Wide Receiver Room

Written by Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

The Indiana Hoosiers have a long list of wide receivers who have made their mark in the record books and on the Big Ten. Whether it be Jade Butcher in the late 1960’s to Ernie Jones in the mid-1980’s to Thomas Lewis in the early 1990’s to Courtney Roby and James Hardy in the 2000’s to more contemporary names like Tandon Doss, Cody Latimer, Shane Wynn, Whop Philyor and Ty Fryfogle. The list goes on and on and I am sure I left out a bunch of names, but the bottom line is, Indiana has a good history of producing wide receivers. Incoming freshman Jaquez Smith is working hard to make sure he can make an impact on the Hoosiers wide receiver room over the next few years.

IU’s co-offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach Grant Heard has been pushing his players to train from home and be ready for the fall season.

“I've just been challenging them, if you all want to be NFL guys, NFL guys are not at their facilities this time of year anyway. If you want to start getting yourself into that lifestyle this is where it is.” Heard said. With the loss of Michael Penix to a season-ending sternoclavicular injury, Peyton Ramsey has stepped up to his previous role as starting quarterback. The redshirt junior heads a No. 13 national passing offense, and with just three picks on the season, has grown into quarterback every team wishes they had to call for backup.

2019 Indiana Football Fall Camp Report: August 19th

On an absolutely scorching day, the Indiana Hoosiers were in Mellencamp Pavilion for practice. Pads and helmets were nowhere in sight for a relatively light day, full of run-throughs, situational drills and special teams playmaking. Energy was high, but relaxed today as there was no contact in drills. There was very little throwing and even less catch-and-run by the receiving corps. Aside from a few full speed route running, it was an all around rest day.

Needing More: Hoosier Wideouts Look to Step Up

Written by T.J. Inman (@TJHoosierHuddle)

The 2018 season was a frustrating one for Indiana football. There were several positives but things did not quite click and IU came up just short of a bowl game. One of the primary reasons for that was a lack of production and explosion in the passing game. The Hoosiers did not have a receiver with more than 46 catches (Luke Timian led the way with 46) and no IU player was able to average even 50 yards receiving per contest. The Hoosiers have turned to a new offensive coordinator with hopes of igniting the offensive attack, the quarterback room is talented and there are a number of wide receivers ready to prove they can get the job done.
