2021 Countdown to Kickoff: 72 Days (Dylan Powell)

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown is chugging along as we near the two month mark. Around this time last year, an IU football season was very uncertain, but we have no doubt since IU announced their plan to allow full capacity at Memorial Stadium. It’s been a long 173 days since we last watched IU football at the Outback Bowl, and 72 more days remain until kickoff at Iowa. Today we feature the veteran offensive lineman who will wear the No. 72 jersey in 2021— Dylan Powell.

Dylan Powell

Hometown: Hannibal, Missouri

Position: Offensive Line

Year: Graduate Student

Height/Weight: 6’3”/310 lbs.

After being granted an extra year by the NCAA upon transfer from Stanford for the 2020 season, Powell owned two playing years, which will remain two in 2021 due to COVID-19.

Coming off a preseason injury which costed Powell his 2019 season, he played in all eight games at IU last season, and started in six— four at left guard and two at right guard. While working towards his MBA at IU’s Kelley School of Business, Powell helped lead the Hoosier offensive line to fewest sacks allowed per game (1.25) in the Big Ten. He earned IU Offensive player of the week for his gritty efforts that led to victory over Michigan.

Coming off his second ACL injury, protecting Michael Penix and his throws has never been more important. The Hoosiers will look to Powell, along with Caleb Jones and Matthew Bedford to better lead the offensive line in the upcoming season. It will be up to them to teach the young Hoosiers the Big Ten offensive lineman ways in 2021.
