After a big afternoon for the Indiana football program on the recruiting trail as Tom Allen and his staff landed Joshua Sales and Maurice Freeman, we focus again on the countdown to kickoff as we feature freshman defensive lineman Damajhe Lewis with 34 days to go.
Damajhe Lewis (Freshman)
Hometown: Griffin, Georgia
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 291 Pounds
Position: Defensive Line
Off of an outstanding high school career at Griffin High School where Lewis won the 2019 3-AAAAA Defensive Player of the Year as posted 13 TFLs and four sacks in just seven games, he enrolled early at IU to partake in spring practice.
Prior to spring ball being cancelled, Lewis had made an impact for the Hoosiers and was positioning himself to be an impact true freshman. Even though the spring was cut short Allen says the early enrollees were impacted for the better.
“They would have to say they're disappointed," IU head coach Tom Allen says, "because they came here with the intent of getting a full spring in, but that did not happen. I will say that they will also agree that they did get more than they would have had before. They had a chance to get an eight-week cycle of lifting with our strength staff that they would not have had before. They got four full practices in with our team that they would not have had before. So, it's definitely still an advantageous situation for them compared to those who did not."
Lewis should have plenty of opportunity to fight his way into the rotation at defensive tackle as the Hoosiers lack depth there. It would provide a huge shot in the arm if he could be as productive as he was in high school.
