Although uncertain, four football-less weekends remain until the Hoosiers are set to kick off the 2020 season in Madison. The Hoosiers are set to face the Badgers on Friday, September 4th. After being paused due to positive COVID-19 tests on July 17, voluntary workouts for the IU Football program resumed yesterday. Now we wait for a game plan to safely play college football with Coronavirus and a conference-only schedule. That being said, with 34 days until scheduled play, we feature Davion Ervin-Poindexter, who will wear the cream and crimson No. 34 jersey in 2020.
Davion Ervin-Poindexter joined the IU football program as a walk-on during fall camp last season. The Merrillville, Indiana native came to Bloomington after wrapping up his high school football career with 1,100 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns at Brothers Rice in Chicago, where he earned honorable mention-all state.
Ervin-Poindexter did not see any game play in 2019, but was awarded offensive scout team player of the week for Indiana’s 52-0 shutout of Eastern Illinois and special teams scout team player of the week for the Michigan game.
Ervin-Poindexter will be impactful on the scout team going into his second season at IU. Hopefully he is rewarded with a look on Saturdays in 2020.
