The Indiana tight ends room ceiling was vastly improved when Peyton Hendershot opted to return, but he is not the only name to be excited about.

“I told the guys in our room this is probably the first time in a long time, maybe ever, that you can look in the tight end room and say ‘hey, there’s a couple NFL guys sitting in that room,” said tight ends coach Kevin Wright to the media last week.

Khameron Taylor Looks for an Expanded Role with the Hoosiers

When last week’s news broke that Indiana had added a graduate transfer tight end to the squad, the move made a lot of sense.

The Hoosiers’ 2019 offense featured the tight end position more than any other year in its history, with starter Peyton Hendershot setting Indiana tight end receiving records in receptions (52) and yards (622). He also added 4 touchdowns and was named to the All-Big Ten team.

But Hendershot took a beating from being utilized so often, and with his February arrest having him participating in a modified role, the tight end room was in need of some additional depth.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head football coach Tom Allen announced on Sunday the additions of Jason Jones as safeties coach and Kevin Wright as tight ends coach. Kasey Teegardin, who coached safeties in 2018 and 2019, has been elevated to special teams coordinator and will oversee the husky position.

Sources confirmed to Hoosier Huddle Saturday morning that the Indiana Football program will be hiring Kevin Wright to join the staff for the 2020 season as the tight ends coach. Newly named offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan served as IU’s tights coach last season, but relinquished that role to run the offense and coach the quarterbacks in 2020.
