June is going to be a major recruiting month for Tom Allen and the other Indiana Hoosier football coaching staff. The Hoosiers currently have 25 official visits set for the month, but before the Hoosiers welcome prospects to Bloomington, the Hoosier staff will be coming to the prospects attending ‘mega’ camps.

Per local rules IU cannot hold any high school camps on campus this summer, so they have adjusted and tight ends coach Kevin Wright has used his connections to lock IU into attending prospect camps around the country.

According to Wright’s twitter posts the Hoosiers will be attending camps in Florida (FIU, Florida State) Ohio, Indiana (UIndy), Georgia (Mercer, Valdosta State, Kennesaw State), Missouri (Lindenwood), and Texas (Dallas Showcase).

“We've been waiting for this for over a year now,” Allen said excitedly, “so we can't wait to get out now, there's you talking about the strategy, well first of all we're not allowed to have camps here on campus, you know, and so that's something that we're not going to be doing here, and so you still get the 10 days that you can use for your staff and so we're maximizing. We basically identify the areas where we recruit in, and where we feel is the best spot to go to and it's also was combination of who would let us come.”

Coaches have 10 days to use to attend camps and Allen said that tight ends coach Kevin Wright set these visits up as part of his job responsibilities.

“Kevin Wright's in charge of that.” Allen explained. “That's one of his job responsibilities. That's why he put that out there and he's done a tremendous job he's got a lot of connections with a lot of high school coaches on a college coach, he's done this for a long time and a lot of different places when his connection I mean his time at img really connected him with kind of the whole country. You know he's coached in some different states as well coach collegiately and so, so that's been a huge plus for us and as we as yours really was about finding in the right location, places it would let us come and allow us to get the most exposure most bang for our buck per se.”

Allen took us through the process and rules surrounding these ‘mega’ camps as well. “You can only take the guys that are on the field so it's your 10 on the field coaches, the head coach, and your four (Graduate Assistants). Those are the guys that get to go out and evaluate players at these camps.” Allen explained. “Next you got 10 days, they go you can go to multiple camps in in a given day and once you identify a day is one that's one of your 10 and so try to very strategically and very judiciously.”

Another wrinkle to watch for June recruiting is that IU coaches and hold an hour long workout for high school seniors to be. “They're also going to give you something new, where you get these, one hour workouts that you can have with players on unofficial visits, and so we're gonna maximize that as well.” Allen said. “That's what we're going to do in lieu of we can't have camps on campus, that's gonna allow us to be able to be able to work a guy out, you know, in per se. Now we can't do as many of those because we obviously we can't be here and there, and every time you put two places at once and once again the 15 guys that could myself that I mentioned before, though they're the only ones that can even do those, they can they can run those workouts and even be in attendance for those workouts, you know that you have on your campus so it's definitely within the rules we're trying to maximize the month of June in the 10 days we have to go out and evaluate.”

It’s been a long time coming for college football coaches to be able to go out and watch and evaluate high school prospects in person and the excitement is palpable. “It's going to be huge for us and and we can't wait I'm so excited to get off campus and go watch football live in person, and has been a long time coming.”
